Three of my closest friends have hung themselves because of Homework. I myself have contemplated getting on my roof and taking the one way trip to the first floor (if you know what I mean) because of homework. Save Paper. Save Lives. No homework.
It should be peoples choice if the feel good about the subject or if they just don't want to do the work. Some people have subjects come easier to them then others. Those kind of people probably wouldn't have to do their homework for success. Also, grades should be your choice. If you don't want to be successful out of shier laziness, then so be it and don't do homework.
Homework causes unnecessary stress.
While homework has been proven to benefiet the learning of kids, only if used in proper moderation. Studies hae shows that SMALL amounts of homework in science and math, as long as the student and the theacher UNDERSTAND WHY the homework is benefiting them, it can be helpful. However, teachers assign way to much homework that just takes away free time from kids.
Actually helps with learning
Hanging yourself over homework is extreme. You are reinforcing knowledge covered in class.
Homework tests to make sure you understand the material
Most students, especially those in high school, are not diligent enough to sufficiently study course material without present positive or negative incentives (loss of points for refusing to turn in assignments, special parties for those who turn in homework, extra credit opportunities for those who turn in everything, etc.). I daresay that if one builds a K-12 class such that the entirety of the students' grades are evenly shared across 2-6 in-class tests, most of them will fail.
At the school I went to, they would decide if you got into honors based off of homework, I never did my homework, and I was in all honors classes.
