My school uses iPads and we literally do nothing with them. Why even waste all this money of them if 90% of teachers are not gong to use them. I kind of wish teachers would do a poll on it and tell us how many teachers are actually going to do something with it.

I prefer PC. Kids should learn to use technology to complete goals. We don't need kids to make huge databases in their heads anymore. We need them to apply knowledge available on the internet.

Do what my school has done. Protective hardcore cases in them and install an administrative app that allows for the people in the tech department micromanage the kids ipads.

My school already uses iPads for learning. There are restrictions so that students can't message each other during the whole lesson.

At my school we use Ipads as a part of our curriculum. There are things that can be done with the ipad that cannot be done without it. In my Latin class, a different student each day airplays ( I think thats what It is called) their homework up on the board and the whole class goes over it together, and in our English class, the teacher anonymously airplays multiple student's work onto the board and the entire class peer edits it. It allows the students and the teacher to be more interactive (if thats the right word I am looking for). Many homework assignments are due at a certain time at night or in the morning. I know personally that it forces me to be responsible with doing my homework because it is difficult for me to try to create a "well-written" essay at 10:45 that is due at 11. It forced me to stop procrastinating as much. With all the snow days, we had to speed up the curriculum, so sometimes sections of an assignment would be due each day in the weekend. (eg. Paragraph 1 on Saturday at 11:30pm, then Paragraph 2&3 at 11:30pm on Sunday)
There are some drawbacks such as students playing games in class, but students do that with phones in classes without ipads anyway, and those students will always do that regardless of the rules. The technology department at our school has made it so that students cannot access certain websites, but some students download VPN's. There are advantages and disadvantages, but I believe that they are a great tool for a student that uses it wisely.
I know that many examples are not complete and that there are about a dozen typos in this comment, but eh, I do not want to stress over the little things. have a great day!

I should probably note that school have already begun using tablets and iPads... payed for by the teacher him/herself. Yes, they should be allowed, I've seen it with my own eyes, it actually gets students excited about learning. But along with restrictions of course, some kids just want to take selfies, but there will always be those kinds of people in life.
