Should smoking inside your home with children be banned???

Smoking in any indoor space in the presence of children or in the home altogether is it wrong to you

  • Yes, adults should not smoke indoors with children present or residing in the home

  • No (can't come up with a good argument for this except it would be hard to enforce but so what)

  • Children don't have a choice what air to breathe. They have to live with the bad parenting choices of their parents. But this shouldn't mean their health should suffer. Parents can smoke outside. Most people think parents do do that, but many parents chainsmoke right next to their child. And the law still says you can do that if its your own house. I don't know why the government hasn't stepped up to protect children. And even other adults honestly. No one should have to be around second hand smoke the smoker should go outside.

  • Answering no means your either crazy, hypocritical, or don't know what effect it has.

  • You know something is wrong with people when they need to have the state tell them what and what not to do when they are raising their children. Look, the bottom line is, if you think it is okay to smoke around children, then you shouldn't be allowed to have any. I don't think having the government enforce a law like this would be of much use, and I think it would just be more useless bureaucracy anyway.

  • Second hand smoking is nowhere near as bad as actually smoking.

  • Banned in your own home hell NO. Education not to smoke around children Yes. But SO what if rights are LESS important then education right? That's like I saying you can't drink in your own home because that is dangerous for children. You can't drive your own car with a child in the vehicle duo to carbon monoxide exposure that kills. I have searched all over and there is no child death statistics from secondhand smoke under 18. But there is from alcohol and drunk drivers and carbon monoxide exposure for children under 18. Are you going to ban those? NO Personally it doesn't effect me if there was a law for this and if you couldn't have any kind of alcohol in the home with children. So if folks are determined in CONTROLLING other people that their rights mean nothing in their home, then go for banning smoking in peoples own homes with children. But You will open the door up for those that is against alcohol and carbon monoxide exposure and other things that is dangerous to children in the home :)

Yes, totally agree with the comments so far. I didn't want to point out all the facts in the poll but I should have, I just know everyone knows its wrong and harmful, but should the government step in and do something and make it stop? But you would be surprised how many parents still do this. I grew up in a house where a parent chainsmoked a half foot away from me at all times. Very unfair and nothing a kid can do about it except be homeless.

What's chain smoking?
Loveshismom says2014-06-26T22:57:51.7064974-05:00
Is it when the smoke comes out in the shape of a chain?
dcnemesis says2014-06-26T22:59:20.1843053-05:00
Haha, not sure if your serious but it means going pretty much from one smoke to another...Like you smoke so much you always have one going. Like nonstop smoking.

I was joking about the chain shape thing

@Rhodesia79 Slavery was once legal, why all of the sudden was slavery made illegal?
dcnemesis says2014-06-28T20:46:12.0146318-05:00
Yes gustav exactly! I didn't even understand that vote comment that person wrote haha
Rhodesia79 says2014-06-28T21:12:17.2269077-05:00
I know! Why did they make illegal! They had slavery, everything was going good and then out of the blue they decided we needed to change it!
Loveshismom says2014-06-28T21:14:40.7157077-05:00
They changed it and the decision was not out of nowhere. It was racist.

@Rhodesia79 - seriously?? I guess you have never read any literature on the topic. Second hand smoke is WORSE for you than smoking. Cigarettes have filters, second hand smoke is inhaled without a filter.

If it is my house, I can smoke in it if I like. If there are other adults in the house, they can leave. If the children have a problem, they can go outside while I smoke and when they are 18, they can leave. Do you realize how many toxins are in the air and that cigarette smoke is negligible compared to that? Sure, its wrong and harmful and I don't personally smoke in my house but, making it illegal makes no sense and would be unenforceable.
