Should Texas secede?

Posted by: MrFreeThinker

(READ) If the government of Texas feels it is no longer their will or the people's will to remain in the Union, and exercises their constitutional right to secede , should they be allowed? Comments would be greatly appreciated.

  • They should if they're getting the short end of the stick.

  • PLEASE!!!!

  • Then they'll come running back towards us looking for help.

  • They'll get extra money.

  • We can tell Mexico that they can have some of their land back.

  • The US has supported other nations that came to be by becoming independent. If the majority of Texans (or any other state or group of states) don't want to be part of the US, forcing them to remain against their will makes the US no different than the countries the US condemned for the same.

  • There is no Constitutional right to secede. There's no point in having a Union if anyone can leave anytime.

  • Mississippi should secede instead.

  • There's no reason for any state to secede. They should be able to in order to avoid a civil war, but Texas is a great state and there is no reason for it to secede.

  • The main majority of Texans (over 90%) want to stay in the Union anyway

  • They are not allowed to, even if they tryed it would mean war, and lst me just say I think that they would lose.

  • This country is known for its 50 states, and should be with held as a state of the United States. Because many may disagree with a state does not give it a right to "isolate" it from the country.

  • It would be better for Texas and for the US if it remained united!

  • After the civil war, NO STATE has a right to secede from the union.

Please take the other confederate states with you on your way out the door. Please!

You get Flordia regardless... OK?

I get it, neo-Confederates are annoying. But secession is a bit over the top. Plus they're still going to be annoying even if they leave.

Not sure, but if they do the collective IQ of the United States will surely increase.
TBR says2015-08-02T02:55:42.0456540Z
Look. There is a time of two PER YEAR that I think it would be a very nice idea for the south to just finish what they started, what they want, and leave. It, aside from this flippant poll, IS worth discussing. If Texas really wants to leave, it should be discussed. Texas, for example, is the most prepared. I am not saying they would do well, but they are isolated on the power grid, have actual resources, and COULD operate as a country.
TBR says2015-08-02T02:58:55.3957024Z
It should be noted that if they took their part of debt, it would be crushing for the new nation. I would offer them a BIG discount on existing debt to leave. Not joking.
TBR says2015-08-02T04:00:13.0831192Z
Lets start to broker the deal for fun. Starting with the fed debt ~18t/50=.36t So... Flat that is 360b, now by population or space, Texas needs to take a greater share, but lets be very generous. Lets take the SS out, etc. do some calcs for other fed spending reductions and be a "cool guy" country, and give a generous discount on it all. -20%? -30? Lets give it 30%. So... 360*.7=252b. That is a workable - with a GDP of 1.4t it is just a tad under California, and that makes its debt ratio not too bad, right? Its a "start-up" country after all, and we are a generous nation. That a citizens of Texas land have lost all investments in Social Security, Medicare, education etc, well, that is now Texastans issue now. Further, Texastan has a water issue. Soooo.... Well, we like our Big Hat friends from the south, we will make some deals. Come one everyone. Lets work this out. What is it going to take to get you into a new country TODAY!!! We are moving these states OUT, and we can't keep them on the books past inventory! Come on down!

Kicking out Mississippi would do us more good, we would have a little bit less idiots in the Congress.

Everyone should stay in the United States, besides if they try it would be a civil war. Lets face it they would lose.

Well, I am a "Real Texan". Got the birth certificate to prove it. Guess I will get dual citizenship

Considering how much one side of the aisle gets their way and the other doesn't stand for their constituents, civil disobedience would be very helpful now by ALL conservatives nation wide. Let's stand for our principles. Let's not lie down to reformist of our constitution. Remember the Betsy Ross of Texas! Last but not least remember this;"[D]emocracy will soon degenerate into an anarchy, such an anarchy that every man will do what is right in his own eyes and no man's life or property or reputation or liberty will be secure, and every one of these will soon mould itself into a system of subordination of all the moral virtues and intellectual abilities, all the powers of wealth, beauty, wit and science, to the wanton pleasures, the capricious will, and the execrable cruelty of one or a very few." "All men are born equally free. The rights they possess at their births are equal, and of the same kind. Some of those rights are alienable, and may be parted with for an equivalent. Others are unalienable and inherent, and of that importance, that no equivalent can be received in exchange. Sometimes we shall mention the surrendering of a power to controul our natural rights, which perhaps is speaking with more precision, than when we use the expression of parting with natural rights - but the same thing is intended. Those rights which are unalienable, and of that importance, are called the rights of conscience. We have duties, for the discharge of which we are accountable to our Creator and benefactor, which no human power can cancel. What those duties are, is determinable by right reason, which may be, and is called, a well informed conscience... What this conscience dictates as our duty, is so; and that power which assumes a controul over it, is an usurper; for no power can be pleaded to justify the control, as any consent in this case is void." " Article 1. All men are born equally free and independent, and have certain inherent and indefeasible rights, among which are those of enjoying and defending life and liberty, of acquiring, possessing and protecting property and reputation, and of pursuing their own happiness." "Guard with jealous attention the public liberty. Suspect everyone who approaches that jewel. Unfortunately, nothing will preserve it but downright force. Whenever you give up that force, you are inevitably ruined." What does any of that mess of cut/paste have to do with the subject at hand Haroush. Should Texas secede?
Haroush says2015-08-02T15:44:03.0298693Z
Exactly, you see it as mess. Your ability to critically think is abhorrent and your imagination is absent.
TBR says2015-08-02T15:46:08.3014755Z
@Haroush - Answer the question. Should Texas secede?
TBR says2015-08-02T15:48:45.5980868Z
Look. Let me be more clear. Regurgitating a bunch of Patrick Henry quotes is not a position.
Haroush says2015-08-02T16:28:48.1447700Z
No, I am not regurgitating those quotes. Maybe you don't like them, but they are all not Patrick Henry quotes anyways...
TBR says2015-08-02T17:11:34.5112934Z
@Haroush - So, no they should not secede? Again, why can't you just take a position? The quotes are meaningless related to your only comments on the subject. " Let's stand for our principles. " what are yours?
stargate says2015-08-02T18:01:10.8337002Z
@TBR You do know that we would not allow Texas to leave.
TBR says2015-08-02T18:11:47.0859006Z
@stargate - I am waiting for a persuasive argument from Haroush.
TBR says2015-08-02T18:18:12.1899692Z
I sure as he11 would not go to war to keep them. Tell you what, we can make the District of Columbia a state, and not even have to change the flag. If they want to take a couple states with them, it will make room for Guam and Puerto Rico.
stargate says2015-08-02T19:54:11.3115266Z
Okay, but we wouldn't allow Texas to be independent. No matter what we get from it. It is illegal, and such a act would mean war.
Vox_Veritas says2015-08-02T21:22:01.2578679Z
No. Gun rights, state rights, less government regulations on industry, and the likes are not big enough grounds for secession.
TBR says2015-08-02T21:24:08.5702840Z
Se Haroush. Thats how you answer a damn question without dancing around it edges.
Haroush says2015-08-03T20:42:57.2329441Z
"No. Gun rights, state rights, less government regulations on industry, and the likes are not big enough grounds for secession." Sure it is. Our whole system is twisted by lawyers looking out to change our constitution. Not maintain it. Anything that goes against our constitution is worth going to war over.
TBR says2015-08-03T20:44:38.6179940Z
So that is as near as you are going to come to a "yes" in these comments. OK. Nice to have a fellow trader to the union.
stargate says2015-08-03T20:46:52.9504551Z
There is no reason to go to war, for one most texas people want to staybin amercia. Also if you leave us for one war would happen. Two our military could easily force you to stay. Three there is not a good reason to secede from the USA. Also it is illegal to secede.
stargate says2015-08-03T20:49:16.5805758Z
Can anyone who picked yes give a good reason why you need to secede. Other the pride, and why not.
Haroush says2015-08-03T20:55:49.7966964Z
I don't give two craps about what laws exist now when it comes to secession because they are phony. Two, I am not no trader to the United States, our government is a trader to it's people. Lastly, many people are simply brainwashed by the government and believe everything they say. That's why many foreigners make fun of Americans because we don't stand up for anything. If the government tells us to do something we do it. If they tell you something is right and something is wrong, you believe it. If the government says you don't have to worry about our national debt, majority don't worry about it. If the government overly taxes you, you just pay it and shut your mouth. Nothing but a bunch of punks. That's Americans for you.
stargate says2015-08-03T20:59:10.3359819Z
Lol not really, also you really do not get it. They would never secede, even if they tryed we wouldn't allow them. Also what is your plan then?
TBR says2015-08-03T21:01:38.0533288Z
@Haroush - The delusion you suffer is thinking this country is meant for you, and the people EXACTLY like you. This country is for all the people who inhabit it, you are just one out of many. I know it is hard for you to see, but from another perspective, you look like the LEAST defender of the constitution, or our way of life. The deep unhappiness you have is that everyone is not just like you.
Haroush says2015-08-03T21:08:34.0923957Z
They wouldn't allow them "by law", but that don't mean nothing. There is a way of going right around the law when it comes to secession. The plan isn't something with immediate effect. The plan is more so long term.
Haroush says2015-08-03T21:14:12.8797674Z
TBR, You don't know what the fvck you are talking about. Go jerk off in your bedroom again for over the millionth time why don't you? You'd be better off doing that.
TBR says2015-08-03T21:15:47.3383729Z
@Haroush - OK. Check. Done. Now what?
Haroush says2015-08-03T21:23:52.6330084Z
Now keep repeating that for the next two hours.
TBR says2015-08-03T21:55:17.3600576Z
My arm is getting tired Haroush. Can I stop now? I think this has something to do with my constitutional right to something-or-other. No masturbation without lubrication. That's in there, right?
Haroush says2015-08-03T21:57:26.9188881Z
Nope. There is no exceptions for that.
stargate says2015-08-03T22:28:25.6864032Z
Lol
stargate says2015-08-03T22:28:38.7436869Z
