We should go be to the original pledge before 1954 when the freedom hating republicans put "under god" in the pledge in order to belittle freedom & create a theodemocracy.
Absolutely. It was added less than a century ago and does not belong. We should be true to the history of the pledge and say it the way it was intended.
I am religious and even I think it should be removed.
Separation of church and state, people!
One nation, under Alla, Invisible, and hypocrisy for all
Even though it really isn't doing any harm where it is, it should be removed to show that we are a country where religion is completely separate from the state. Even though those two words are not the entire problem, their removal would be a beginning to the solution.
It should be removed. It was only added as a stunt during the Cold War. Let's just completely do away with the pledge.
"If we ever forget that we are one nation under God, then we will be a nation gone under." -Ronald Reagan
"The greatest happiness of the greatest number is the foundation of morals and legislation." -Jeremy Bentham "If God does not exsist, it would be necessary to invent Him." "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it." -Voltaire
I believe we should leave religious references as they are right now.
How on Earth does saying " under God" make America a fundamentalism?! How on Earth is it infringing on your freedoms?! Even if you are an atheist, for traditions sake why not keep it? To every one whom voted yes, do you really think that this really offends anyone? Are agnostics around the nation sobbing in tears every time they have to say the pledge of allegiance?!
"Blessed is the Nation whose God is the Lord" Psalm 33:12 Our nation was built on God. The pilgrims came here to worship God freely. Separation of church and state means that the government can't control what is said in church. That is what it really means, not that religion can't be in the government but that the government can't control the church. That is what the church of England was doing, controlling the church and what was said. As I said that is why the pilgrims came here in the first place!
