  • Extend it to have a 3 week summer break so we can compete with China's education system.

  • 1) The more time you spend in school the more likely your salary will be higher. Not in every case, but more probable. 2) Make summer school voluntary. If you have to work or parents don't think you should, that's okay 3) kids don't work in the summer as much as they use too, if they can get job experience in summer let them get it 4) reduce cost by allowing subs or teaching majors to teach summer.

  • On the other hand, it shouldn't be made any shorter

  • We are in school for almost all of the year and studies show that it is quality time that makes people smarter not a mass quanity

  • 99.9% of all schools have supplementary lessons during holidays anyway...

  • NOOOOO! And I'm saying that from the perspective of a high school student. I never understood, why can't we just be content with having a great educational system. We don't have the best, but we still have a great one. Kids and teenagers are people too! How pissed would you be if your 2 month vacation for your job got reduced to 1 month with no additional benefits in return? Hell, my brain is burned out by the end of the third quarter. Add another few weeks to that and I'm fried. What exactly would you even be looking to do in those extra few weeks? It would cause a lot more stress with a small benefit.

China's education system isn't that great... We should be competing with countries like Finland.

Really? I thought they had a really good education system.

There's been a lot of media hype about how perfect Finland's system is and how everyone should be learning from them. From the articles I've read, while I do like some aspects of their system, I'm not a big fan overall.

I saw this infomercial, and it this principal from Xiuyuan (i probably spelt it wrong) school said that China's education system was a failure, and students were only taught how to pass exams. They started implementing laptops in their lessons, and he said students enjoyed school more and learned. This is precisely what Finland is doing, which is why they are successful.

They were just teaching them how to pass exams? Ah hah, that's why they and some other asian countries score the highest on exams.
