  • People say they generate wealth due to there land. But the government could just take the land and then it would generate the same wealth minus the over 200millon a year for the royal family.

  • Yes, she's useless. No real power. Then again, Europe in general is a joke. Who cares.

  • yes we should reminisce and pay homage to the type of government that used to oppress and suppress the people.

  • Monarchy is a long British tradition, though it's probably better that the British monarch has no real power.

  • Why?

  • France is a boring republic, want to know why? Because they removed their Queen. Britain shall not into boring republic.

  • People are so moronic. Firstly, they give away their land for the public, they give the vast majority of the profits of most of their royal estates to the Governments and they live off the rest. So it cost the British people nothing and infact they give Britain money. Also don't forget all the tourism and extra trade they give us because of their prestige and reputation. Also many members of the Royal Family negotiaite multimillion pound deals with other nations. Plus, she does have power contrary to popular belief. The only things she can't eeffectively do is change taxes or raise an army (although all British armed forces pledge allegiance to her not the Government) so in reality she has vast amounts of power but gracefully chooses not to flaunt it. Another reason to keep it is simple, its a wonderful, historical and traditional institution. England/Britain has had a unified monarch since 871 AD, Alfred The Great, and Queen Elizabeth II is the direct 32nd Great Granddaughter of King Alfred. It's Britain's oldest and most celebrated institution. However, if you look at most examples constitutional monarchies are usually the bet form of government in the world. Some of the most affluent, prosperous, equal and fair socieities in the world have constitutional monarchies e.g. Canada, Austrlia, Norway, Sweden, the UK. The people who believe we should abolish the monarchy need to actually have a serious think about their silly opinions.

  • Nope, they are staying. Not to mention, if a system like the US has is the alternative then we couldn't take the embarrassment. Their politics of late have made them a global laughing stock.

In fact, they would completely cease to exist if they had no 'real power' at all.

It may only be 65p a year but that could be used for much more important things in the UK. I mean when you have more debt then GDP like the UK you cant really be wasting your money on Palaces and security for some random family.

Most British people like the idea of a monarchy. Just because the United States has shunned the idea of monarchy doesn't mean that's by default the best course of action for all nations.

I know plenty of British who don't. Maybe most however are indifferent towards them. The point is that it is an outdated and unnecessary commodity that is built on totally weird bloodlines.
