  • Absolutely. There is no reason whatsoever that this has to be done by government. Private companies can make products that the global economy depends on. There's no reason why a company can't deliver the mail.

  • Im not really too worried about the postal companies turning into the modern equivalents of the Congo Free State. With some regulation they should turn out fine.

You do know that the USPS gets no tax dollars, right?

Not everything needs to be privatized.

Everything that can be done without government should be privatized.

*can* Doesn't mean it would be more efficient. If the government does stuff better, I do not see why we should just privatize it. It's like giving a perfectly healthy person medicine.

The government does not do anything better. The government run FAA was responsible for making a rule that said you couldn't have an armed Air Marshal on a plane. If that rule hadn't existed, 9/11 may never have happened. And private companies have more reason to run the organization better because it effects their profits.

But the poll is talking about the U.S postal service...

Its not as simple as that Texas14. Corporations do whats best for a profit. They would have no interest in "armed" anyone unless the government TOLD THEM TO DO IT!

As for the post office, it is dying. It is necessary, reform is necessary. No more Saturday deliveries is a start, better yet, one day a week deliveries would be fine by me.

@TBR, I don't see how that would be more efficient. Mail would be delivered much slower and the salaries of the workers would go down because they're doing less work. @tajshar, I was using an example to show you that government is not very capable of managing very much effectively.

@Texas14 - Who says the delivery staffing has to stay at current levels? The guy who delivers to my neighborhood can cover 5 neighborhoods.

Let me be clearer. If Postman Pat can deliver to 100 households per day, he delivers to 600 per week. If we cut Saturday out completely, and only deliver to homes once per week, he has the same households per day, same salary. , same workload (minus one day).

@TBR Thank you for giving me nostalgia on Postman Pat. Https://www.Youtube.Com/watch?V=HiFNt8nGffA

@Texas14 Thats my point. Maybe in some cases, the government might have screwed up, but in the case of the Postal service, I don't really have a big reason to complain, for me to prefer some company deliver it. Also you say that private companies have more reason to run the organization better because it effects their profits. Well for the government, they have a good reason to run it because the party in power will likely not get as many voters if their services aren't efficient.
