  • Yes, but you do know that that is already a thing right ?

  • This is basic democracy... surely...

  • This is a right in the Constitution, technically, The North had no right to stop the Confederate States from leaving the Union.

  • As long as it's not over enslaving others like the South leaving so they could keep enslaving African-Americans. In that case I think Republicans and Lincoln were justified in opposing it just to stop Democrats from destroying the rights of African-Americans.

Umm, jzyehoshua, you do know that the Civil War really wasn't about freeing the slaves. Yes it was one difference that would surely divide the Union in Civil War, but Lincoln would have sent all the blacks out west onto preserves with Indians had the South agreed to the terms. The decision to free the slaves was only an act to throw a wrench into the Southern society, what would you have done had you been black and you heard the North was free, and to provide a surplus in troops that were being slaughtered in droves on the front. While in the end most blacks did attain their freedom many were still bound to the landowner in debt and had people really cared back then, would the Jim Crow laws and oppression in the south not have still been common place.
