Genetically modfiying foods makes the food industry corporate, it doesnt solve any problems, it just creates more. You might say that we are able to make more food but why make more food if we throw 40% of the food we produce in the trash, save food dont make more of it
Kreakin says2015-10-18T21:58:10.7624736Z
What! You have and eat GM foods!!! No one in Europe would touch that stuff, a few unlucky livestock get fed it but not people.
TBR says2015-10-18T22:00:19.3836491Z
Yes you have kreakin. Yes you have.
Kreakin says2015-10-18T22:01:47.4450846Z
No GM products in my local super market, no point. It has to be labeled and no one buys it so they don't stock it.
Kreakin says2015-10-18T22:02:37.8015618Z
Most of the food I buy comes from an organic farm about 15 miles away, they deliver.
TBR says2015-10-18T22:05:36.7324148Z
I don't doubt that. Fresh produce you can get organic (GMO free), but anything that has any processing will have GMO products in them. Even almost all meats (from feed).
Kreakin says2015-10-18T22:06:15.4513666Z
We have grass here.

GMO feed is common for British animals too.

Even take aways , one place that might use a GM oil, is bound by law to tell you if they do. No one trusts it so they don't use it. Seriously, the EU populace is very anti GM. Why mess with good food? The law says it must be labled if any GM ingredients are used, including feeds, people don't buy it so no one stocks it.

Go you ever eat a bag of chips? Drink a soda?

It's not going to last dude...

I'm lucky really, I live in Hampshire UK, it's got alot of farms and locally produced foods so I do get good food. Shame if it's contaminating proper foods.
TBR says2015-10-18T22:15:41.1973400Z
Look. My family, we eat organic. My wife is very careful in buying. It is, however, incredibly arrogant. If you can afford to eat eat - fine. That does not mean you (or I) am in any way morally superior. There are a lot of good reasons to buy organic, local. None of them, none of the good reasons, is because of health. In other words, it is lucky for us that we can say with any sense of being "better" that we don't eat GMO. Further, it is near impossible to be right in that statement.
Bluepaintcan123 says2015-10-18T22:21:52.6874192Z
Why do people think that GMOs are so bad? It isn't deadly.

@Kreakin - Look. Taking advice from AAEM is no better than taking the words of Monsanto. Point is - the only people able to be picky about this are people who live by the very luxury provided BY GMO. Yea, I say that again. I get to draft off GMOs when I eat organic (mostly). It is hubris.
Kreakin says2015-10-18T22:31:20.2731341Z
I'm not privileged unless the whole EU is.
TBR says2015-10-18T22:34:49.9723667Z
Yes we all are. GMOs are not some evil plot. Feel good about organic if you like, he11 I do, but don't for a second think you are doing something good for the environment, poor/underfeed, or the future population of the planet.
Bluepaintcan123 says2015-10-18T22:41:32.2173975Z
@Kreakin In America almost all the foods are made with GMOs (and a LOT are not labeled.) There hasn't been any mass deaths or organ damage because of the GMOs, and where is the evidence that it could cause that? GMOs are just taking parts of the DNA from certain plants/animals and placing them into another food. Ex. Taking DNA from one rice plant and giving it to another so they can withstand harsh weather conditions. Where the hell are the "scientific studies" proving that GMOs are destroying people's lives? The only thing that was at least a little truthful was the use of insecticide that is harmful, but that's it. I never had any sudden heart failure because I ate tomatoes with GMOs, and in fact I am perfectly healthy. Also, @TBR is right. Not everyone in the world can get fancy non-GMO foods. GMOs make food cheaper and easier for companies to make, which is good for people who don't have a lot.
themightyindividual says2015-10-19T16:25:58.5300284Z
Genetically modified foods are better than regular foods for the simple principle that regular food is a result of thousands of years of human breeding and therefore it is only speeding up this process (which has done nothing but good for us) to directly modify the genome. After all, if a scientist can modify the genes of crops in order to prevent disease and vitamin deficiency, isn't that progress? The real problem is that many people are scared of progress, just look at any anti-GMO person. They are inferior to everyone.
themightyindividual says2015-10-19T16:33:48.4302162Z
To Bluepaintcan123: Exactly. There is no evidence for why the fear-mongering pro-primitive hippies are telling us not to eat GMO food. GMOs reduce the need for insecticide and pesticide as well as the need to use excessive water and it also prolongs the life of food so less is wasted. I'm not an environmentalist but I'm pretty sure that's good for our environment.
yasa says2015-10-19T17:41:18.0394570Z
People who eat GMO foods are more likely to die quicker, have diseases and illnesses. ALSO, that is why everybody is dying everywhere from heart attacks, diabetes etc. ALSO, that is why in America most people are obese and in the UK most people have diabetes. You are what you eat. You eat organic and healthy food, that is what you will be organic. You eat crap and that is what your body will become crap.
TBR says2015-10-19T18:22:21.8096635Z
Yasa - it pains me to say, but that entire post was a load of crap! Obesity in the us has no connection with GMO. Dying? You have to be kidding me. Where is any actual info to back that statement? I have NO love for corporate farming, and eat organic produce, but all the GMO scare is horsesh1t without a shrewd of proof.
Bluepaintcan123 says2015-10-19T19:47:46.8196231Z
@yasa Obesity in the U.S. is because of huge corporations selling fatty foods (like McDonalds.) It is way cheaper than fruits and vegetables so people eat it more often, and that has nothing to do with GMOs. Do your research.
TBR says2015-10-19T20:28:39.2023834Z
@Bluepaintcan123 - GMOs havent even been in the market for more than 20 years. The idea that obesity, diabetes and heart disease are issues less than 20 years old illustrates the willingness to just lump any problem on the back of this tech. For whatever it's worth... To all fears of GMO... Please wait until you have any actual negative effects proven before going all "down with GMO!". The last I can think to say is, please buy local. Buy organic. I do both. However, get your reasons straight, and don't think for one second it makes you a friend of the earth.
themightyindividual says2015-10-19T20:32:02.2402879Z
You're all just a bunch of hippies.
TBR says2015-10-19T20:51:10.8891806Z
@themightyindividual - By all are you talking about 25% who voted "yes"?
tajshar2k says2015-10-19T21:04:41.1387583Z
Actually Conservatives are the ones who generally oppose GMOs...
TBR says2015-10-19T21:06:02.2362668Z
Do you really think so tajshar2k?
tajshar2k says2015-10-19T21:48:04.1112145Z
Not sure if that is sarcasm...
