  • Child Porn should be censored. . . that's on the internet.

  • We have censorship in all media and mostly we agree with it. Who would want gore etc everywhere. Most website self censor like to movies and papers.

  • We shouldn't have censorship because we are all grown up and we shouldn't have censorship.

  • Just another step towards government tyranny.

  • only censor illegal content.

  • Yet whenever PetersSmith gets her marching orders from airmax to censor material in the polls, no one here bats an eye they leave it up to the almighty hect and allow him to get banned. Pack of hypocrites. You all say you believe in certain things yet none of you stand up for those beliefs. Pathetic the lot of you!!!

  • Hect(x), did you get banned and have chosen to follow in the footsteps of Heil(xx)?

  • Blocking things offends Slaanesh.

  • didnt know we were north Koria. kinda upsets me to see this counrty even think about doing such thiing. home of the brave land of the free?

  • If anything should be censored at all, it should be child pornography. Everything else (including copyrighted works and offensive statements) shouldn't be.

Well.... This is not as easy as it seems on first glance. Look, say I put a server out on a private island, or in international waters. I host every disgusting piece of child porn I can find. Do I have the right to send my nasty packets through every router necessary to get the content to the perv sitting in Iowa?
TBR says2015-07-20T19:06:18.0823845-05:00
I register a domain. I call it Terrorists.Org. It is a forum for every terrorists org you can think of. I don't discriminate, I offer email, forums and chat to neo-natzis, anti-abortion terror groups, islamic terrorists. Should someone block my IP?
TBR says2015-07-20T19:08:00.1369303-05:00
Let me give another. I operate a POP. I can see that floods of DDOS, or phishing itraffic is coming from a subnet (say in China), I can't block that?
tajshar2k says2015-07-20T19:12:58.5817952-05:00
Child porn is an exception. Most often than not, nobody asks the child for their consent, and children aren't smart enough to make decisions for themselves. Everything should be allowed.
tajshar2k says2015-07-20T19:14:01.4978051-05:00
@TBR Ya, you should be banned. You could be planning some terrorist plot, which would be against the law. Therefore, you can get banned. If it was just speech, then they can't ban you.
TBR says2015-07-20T19:19:42.6251810-05:00
@tajshar2k - The internet has no bounds. As I said, I placed the server in international waters.
tajshar2k says2015-07-20T19:21:16.0534438-05:00
Well, technically your allowed to operate. But I have a few questions. Who is going to give you service, and your probably not going to have a lot of customers.
TBR says2015-07-20T19:21:30.2356338-05:00
Further tajshar2k, you have stated a "personal" threshold, right? No on the child porn. So, the entirety of the internet censorship policy is based around YOUR sensibilities?
TBR says2015-07-20T19:23:12.5371463-05:00
@tajshar2k - If I were operating the largest collection of child ponography on server in international waters, I would have more clients than I could EVERY provide the bandwidth to. Who would offer me the bandwigth? Well the "uncensored" internet, right?
tajshar2k says2015-07-20T19:23:22.9434798-05:00
No, its not just my decision. Its scientifically proven children have had their brains develop fully, therefore aren't knowledgeable enough to make decisions. Same reasons why children don't drive cars, or join the army.
tajshar2k says2015-07-20T19:24:21.8090350-05:00
TBR says2015-07-20T19:24:39.1116570-05:00
@tajshar2k - I have no issue with your science, and still don't care. My child porn site is making money hand over fist, and since the Internet is "uncensored" and the collection is on MY server, well then, all cool right?
tajshar2k says2015-07-20T19:26:37.2169749-05:00
Well, ya I guess. Your still not going to get customers from the U.S though. I think the poll is talking about internet censorship in the U.S.
tajshar2k says2015-07-20T19:27:03.3347100-05:00
Child porn is legal in Russia, might as well move there.
TBR says2015-07-20T19:29:44.5166897-05:00
I'm branching out a bit. I have decided to stream live executions and torture. I am calling it "FacesOfDeath.Tk" The cameras are setup on the Balleny islands. I am using satellite on my "uncensored" connection to "Hughesnet USA". Only charging $1,000 for direct connection with the torture. Free enterprise on a completely unrestricted internet.
TBR says2015-07-20T19:30:58.0443052-05:00
@tajshar2k - Are you NUTS. I would get most of my traffic from the US. Again, we are talking about uncensored internet, right?
tajshar2k says2015-07-20T19:32:21.1249036-05:00
What are you talking about?? Child Porn is already banned in the U.S. I already listed why its banned. "Child porn is an exception"
tajshar2k says2015-07-20T19:37:01.4180990-05:00
Regarding your execution video, you technically are allowed to upload as along as you get the consent of the guy being tortured.
TBR says2015-07-20T19:37:31.1240705-05:00
OK. Lets try this. I want to register some domains. I go to GoDaddy, on a completely uncensored internet I should be able to register "ILikePreeTeenGirls.Com" "IKillJews.Com" and "HitmanForHigher.Com", right?
TBR says2015-07-20T19:39:05.8580930-05:00
"Regarding your execution video, you technically are allowed to upload as along as you get the consent of the guy being tortured." Upload nothing. I am not uploading anywhere. It is sitting right on MY server in international (legal) ground.
sara_ann_dee says2015-07-20T19:39:31.6795898-05:00
Guys haha just make a debate about it
TBR says2015-07-20T19:40:33.1225784-05:00
@sara_ann_dee - Don't ask the question if you don't want the discussion.
TBR says2015-07-20T19:44:13.0524163-05:00
Yet another. I again run a PoP. Encrypted traffic is pouring through a number of IPs. Every time there is high encrypted traffic, an act of terrorism happens. Too bad I guess. No censoring the internet, right?
TBR says2015-07-20T20:42:15.7266614-05:00
I went off looking for hate speech that has been censored on Facebook etc. This example (with a photo) is about the safest I could find, and PASSED the facebook challenge by the way. "30% of women killed are murdered by their boyfriends or husbands. 30% of women aren't doing their jobs"
triangle.128k says2015-07-20T20:44:25.1057554-05:00
Internet censorship can easily be bypassed with a proxy server, VPN or something. Everybody in China and other countries with censorship use those all the time.
sara_ann_dee says2015-07-20T20:48:21.0854427-05:00
@TBR chill I was kidding - my last poll had 80 comments so I'm just still in shock
TBR says2015-07-20T20:48:35.1231609-05:00
@triangle.128k - Hogwash. Try to get on a Tor network from China.
TBR says2015-07-20T20:49:18.5920049-05:00
triangle.128k says2015-07-20T20:49:29.4362136-05:00
@TBR Everyone in China uses proxy servers or something. And TOR is pretty slow as crap, you'd only need it for extreme privacy.
triangle.128k says2015-07-20T20:52:09.6984968-05:00
From what i've seen, nearly every Chinese person with a brain knows how to bypass internet censorship. They probably do the same in countries like Iran or Saudi Arabia
TBR says2015-07-20T20:52:11.1995676-05:00
@triangle.128k - I am making a big deal out of this. http://www.howtogeek.com/162092/htg-explains-how-the-great-firewall-of-china-works/ This is simply NOT TRUE. The discussion of net neutrality and censorship are big deals, and seldom get any real general understanding. The Internet is not (generally speaking) that complex, but it seems that most people just don't get how this all works.
triangle.128k says2015-07-20T20:54:40.1786126-05:00
It just mentioned that people use VPNs to easily tunnel out of the great firewall. I know VPNs are being blocked, but apparently it's still possible.
TBR says2015-07-20T20:58:09.6852696-05:00
"Blocking VPNs: In late 2012, the Great Firewall started trying to block VPNs. VPNs were previously used to escape the Great Firewall. They’re also critical for many business users, so this was a surprising move. The firewall learns to identify what encrypted VPN traffic looks like and kills VPN connections." Killing VPNs would be among the most difficult for them, and they, as of several years ago, are realizing and controlling traffic.
TBR says2015-07-20T21:00:50.2079144-05:00
My points are. 1) Censorship (and neutrality) are complex and misunderstood issues. 2) Given examples, almost everyone WANTS some level of control, and almost everyone (when given examples) supports NON-net-neutrality. It, the entire subject matter, is a mess of misinformation and guttural opinions.
TBR says2015-07-20T21:03:00.3928192-05:00
I want a "neutral" and "open" internet, but it does not help anyone to ignore what some of the sticky issues are.
TBR says2015-07-20T21:13:29.7977578-05:00
We, as a very rough estimate, we have a Internet with 500x to 750x MORE content than is available on the surface web. The "Deep Web" (not necessarily the dark web) is monstrous. All the stupid tweets, facebook posts, etc are a tiny fraction of what is flying around at any given second. Some corporate general work, some is keeping our very technological lives working. Do you think I should have "priority" to post a picture of my new puppy over insuring traffic light timing in NYC? Or, how about Netflix. They aren't given any "priority" what they do is rent space in datacenters around the country to make sure you can watch movies without buffering. Want them to NOT do that? Look, I want new competition on the Internet, but this stuff should not be knee-jerk. Its just too important.
triangle.128k says2015-07-20T21:17:46.7200171-05:00
@TBR The deep web is stuff like private buisness information or whatever. There's a reason why 95% of the web's content is hidden.
triangle.128k says2015-07-20T21:18:07.9167084-05:00
Not to be confused with the "darknet" which is basically a black market network.
TBR says2015-07-20T21:26:18.6024587-05:00
@triangle.128k - I am not disagreeing with that description. Let me give you an example of "neutrality" gone wrong. First responders are now being equipped with IP radio gear. Works... Well, no need to explain, point is, the traffic IS on the internet. Do you see a good reason why during a time of disaster we should "throttle down" consumer traffic for the sake of these people?
TBR says2015-07-20T21:31:14.2830622-05:00
Let me give a business example. I came from banking and broker dealer IT. We pay huge dollars for links to facilitate trading. Some will pay the highest rental space rates IN THE WORLD to be in the co-loc (at&t) on Manhattan. They do this, we did this, because we are trading. Bandwidth is not the problem, latency IS the problem. So, should we be able to pay for low latency just like more bandwidth? Why not?

HECT!!! Well, its not exactly your conversations, but like fly's to... Well like Hect to censorship.
TBR says2015-07-20T21:49:14.9900607-05:00
Would love some of your honest input on this. Please try to read through the discussion to get the point.
hect6 says2015-07-20T22:43:52.7475432-05:00
To be perfectly honest a lot of this IT talk is way over my head. I work in a needle exchange. I am not very computer lingo savvy. But what I can say and what I have constantly stood for is who do we allow to decide for us what should be censored.
hect6 says2015-07-20T22:46:54.0583970-05:00
I am surprised I have not been banned yet usually it only takes 5 minutes
TBR says2015-07-20T22:50:19.1203970-05:00
Damn filter filtered out my response!
TBR says2015-07-20T22:53:55.5557670-05:00
Does buying better latency (speed, not bandwidth) hamper freedom of speech?
TBR says2015-07-20T22:58:05.4894148-05:00
Want to know where the villains of net neutrality are? Look at your ISP. Look what ports are open. They are BLOCKING ports. All I want from my ISP is a "open" internet. Give me the bandwidth I pay for, all the ports my protocols can talk on, and leave ME alone. Now, priority for traffic? Sure. When the robot arm is doing remote surgery HIS traffic gets priority. I just pinged (ICMP) debate.Org. It is responding ~23ms. I did same for one of my DB servers. Solid 18MS. Seems good right? When we are using "smart cars" we are going to NEED sub 1ms response times. Want your cat video to take precedence over the family driving down the highway at 100mph? NO!
