  • its nice to have the best military in the world, but we don't need to spend more than all other countries combined on it

  • there are so many unnecessary military weapons programs we dont need right now considering that the US doesnt fight entire countries anymore, just terrorist cells

  • It's stronger than all other countries, we don't need to spend anymore on it

  • There needs to be more money invested in education, environmental stability, helping the poor, the medical field etc...

  • Don't cut defense. Cut unnecessary military spending.

  • I would have really liked to say yes, but its nice knowing that we have the most formidable army in the world, its one of our finest deterrents. When things wind down a bit and the world starts getting boring again, then I'm all for distributing the wealth. :P

  • Yeah sure lets cut our military in a time where literaly every country has a reason to hate us. We need a powerful military.

  • We already spend enough on other things, the homeless can just get join the military, and education is the same, its just what people take of it.

  • We need a strong amy other wise it might one day be to late.

  • Why would you leave the United States open and not have enough soldiers to protect us?

Yes because some people have a family and they want to spend more time with their families.

@voxol I wouldn't say ALL countries combines, more like the top 12 under us.

@retrogamer176 just googled it, apparently we spend about 45% estimated. You're right

We do spend more than the next twelve countries combined, and most of them are our allies. The level of funding we pour into our military is paranoid and wasteful.
retrogamer176 says2015-04-08T15:08:53.6361281-05:00
Not paranoid. The gov. is corrupt.
TheMarquis says2015-04-08T15:09:53.0397857-05:00
@retrogamer: I didn't mean the government. I know exactly what you are talking about down to which companies are involved. I mean the citizens who fall for it.
retrogamer176 says2015-04-08T15:11:12.9258494-05:00
Ah, ok. That's true.
retrogamer176 says2015-04-08T18:23:35.3385145-05:00
@chucknorris yeah, sure because our military TOTALLY isn't the reason why everyone hates us...

A lot of people confuse the 2012 defense budget with the current one. In 2012 we spent 716 billion on defense, which is roughly 25% of the total budget. The 2015 defense budget is around 521 billion dollars, which is around 18% of the total budget. That drop is mostly due to our withdraw from Iraq. Once we leave Afghanistan, the budget will drop again to between 400 and 500 billion, which is a healthy average. We don't need to make cuts, just stop waging wars. P.S. We no longer spend more than the next 12 nations combined. Its much closer to the next 2 or 3 combined.

I would like to say yes but the way things are internationally (tense) pushes me into the "undecided" category.

@gustaf we can afford to cut military spendings.
