  • We can cut the military spending's in HALF and STILL be the #1 military BY FAR!!!! Not good enough reasoning? We spend more then the top 6 nations COMBINED!!!

  • Conservative propaganda has us spending too much.

  • We've had too much authority in our government. It's not a left right issue. Obama has spent a lot more than Bush on the military, and yet less has been accomplished. It's time we submit a balanced budget to congress and that starts with decreasing unnecessary military spending.

  • We have a bigger military budget than the next 12 countries combined its crazy

  • Especcially in the area of bombings- they just aren't very effective.

  • Those flippin leaders of the United States spend so much in the military and have abandoned health and education! Curse those who support this cursed idea. I pluckin hate that! If they didn't spend much in the military, public colleges and public universities would be free along with giving books to the students with the expectancy to return them in the end of the semester, quarter, term, etc. just like in high school. In that case, we could also have free universal medical insurance and have free medical appointments as well as free prescription medicine as needed. I am for justice. Pluck those unnecessary things! If all countries spent not much in the military and didn't obsess over certain things or relations between any countries which wouldn't cause any conflict then, and if they spent much more on health and education, the world would be a much more educated place. It's on our hands. We must do this. We as humans must not abuse our intelligence because that is destroying the Earth. Intelligence has good and bad, depending on how we use it. We tend to call it good only, but it really is good and bad. That, in terms of math, is called absolute value. The greater the quality of intelligence, the greater potential good and bad effects it has. We have been misjudging what will bring better stability on relations by strengthening our military and weapons, which only brought deeper conflicts all around the world. It's time we stop and think and consider a different option, to stop with all our thought to end conflict by creating more conflict through intimidation. That is fighting fire with fire. Firefighters don't have a hose blowing fire on fire, but it's rather a chemical snow thing that is designed to stop fire. We have the power to make the choice today to shift our gears to this kind of life I just mentioned. Don't you think it's very wonderful? Yes, there are extremely bad countries that will probably want to take over USA as we give up our weapons, but for those of you who are Christians as well as me, we must pray and have faith that they won't do this. If they do, they will most likely be reduced because difficulties in life is called trial, which is suppose to help us become spiritually stronger. Remember that Jesus saves.

  • We need to cut spending by at least 50% if not more

  • Because the increase in other countries military spending, requires the U.S. to maintain, even increase the current military spending. It's nexus.

  • Although when most people talk about our defense spending, they think of the 716 billion dollars spent in 2012 and not the 521 billion dollars in the 2015 defense budget. We no longer spend more than the next 12 nations put together. And given are budget history, this price tag (521 billion) is actually average. Due to the size of the US economy, anywhere between 400 and 500 billion is considered a healthy amount of spending.

  • We need our military to protect ourselves from radical Islamic terrorists.

  • military does more 4 the nation than just fight one's enemies,

  • Are you kidding me? We need more money in the military!

Conservative propaganda says to spend a lot on the military so we can take the place of the UN. The only difference being is that we're doing a bad job at solving world problems.

@triangle.128k You sure like using the word "propaganda" a lot.
retrogamer176 says2015-04-02T19:28:58.7738003-05:00
Probably because that's what it is?

"Remember that Jesus saves lives" I can't.... I just can't...

I can't believe people actually voted "no" on this poll.
walle_ras says2015-04-03T13:46:49.8353873-05:00
We spend a lot on military so that China won't wipe us off the map.
retrogamer176 says2015-04-03T14:03:12.2160633-05:00
@walle_ras I'm sorry, I'm pretty sure we can cut our spending's in half, and china STILL wouldn't be able to.
walle_ras says2015-04-03T14:04:19.2579828-05:00
You are right. I am changing my vote. But we do need to fire all of the muck mucks. And dissolve 97% of our government.
retrogamer176 says2015-04-03T14:06:21.0727090-05:00
Walle_ras I apologize, what's a muck muck?
walle_ras says2015-04-03T14:12:56.0514393-05:00
Muck mucks are managers and bureaucrats who get in the way and do not deserve their pay check.
retrogamer176 says2015-04-03T14:17:29.1176429-05:00
@wally_rus oh ok.
TBR says2015-04-03T14:20:36.9513983-05:00
@walle_ras - Where do you want to start to get to 97%. Just give me the first 30%. What would you cut totaling 30%?
walle_ras says2015-04-03T14:38:39.1875233-05:00
Test
walle_ras says2015-04-03T14:42:49.0807195-05:00
WHY WONT IT LET ME SUBMIT Social Security Medicare Medicade Homeland Security Public Schools Bad employees Planned Parenting.
walle_ras says2015-04-03T14:43:00.5993586-05:00
Finally
retrogamer176 says2015-04-03T14:57:29.5978640-05:00
@wally_rus, ALL of those sections, except for bad employees, are where I argue the government should spend MORE on. Also, I know your pain, it's some stupid "moderation" thing.
walle_ras says2015-04-03T15:02:06.8461981-05:00
We could debate it if you want but that is where I believe we need cuts.
TBR says2015-04-03T15:09:49.8687399-05:00
OK, well. Social Security (forgetting the incredible misinformation) is 765b (22%). All public outlays to education is 141b (~4%) Planed Parenthood is ~500m (.014%). So you got to 26.014% without Homeland Security. Wait for it.... DHS 43.2b (1.234%). NOPE. With your INSANE plan, you cant get to 30%
walle_ras says2015-04-03T15:13:24.4253943-05:00
You forgot the 100 billion for useless employees. Also Medicare and Medicade I would have added more. So I will now, OSHA, Welfare, Food Stamps, Subsidies, Road building, Amtrack, Post office, IRS, EPA, NSA, is that enough?
walle_ras says2015-04-03T15:14:00.7929270-05:00
Btw I appreciate you crunching the numbers.
retrogamer176 says2015-04-03T15:19:19.9029175-05:00
@wally_rus the only one I think we should do cuts on is military spending's. Seriously, we need to cut it in HALF!
walle_ras says2015-04-03T15:20:16.8281782-05:00
And nothing would change about our strenght.
TBR says2015-04-03T15:24:00.3581113-05:00
Walle_ras - I'm not picking on you, not really, but the budget items you want to cut (insane as they ARE) include the "worthless" employees you include in your 100b. OSHA is 500m (.015), SNAP ~70b (2.11%), ALL federal spending on transportation 110b (3.14%) post office 0$ (0%). So, even with ALL that crazy (yes it is crazy) cuts, you JUST BARELY break 30% at 31.279%. Do you get this?
walle_ras says2015-04-03T15:27:06.0530740-05:00
The post office cost 13.4 billion. Plus I haven't even gotten started.
retrogamer176 says2015-04-03T15:27:27.8003765-05:00
If you cut military to a certain point, you can reach 30%.
walle_ras says2015-04-03T15:31:45.4466733-05:00
Yep, conservatives need to cut the military.
TBR says2015-04-03T15:33:30.4333273-05:00
@retrogamer176 - This is a fun way to think about this. If you cut total defense spending by 30% you could fund ALL of the things walle_ras wants to cut (excluding Social Security).
walle_ras says2015-04-03T15:35:09.3984585-05:00
And continue having a trillion dollar debt.
TBR says2015-04-03T15:37:36.0053789-05:00
Another fun factoid. If you cut defense spending ~6.5% we could make ALL EDUCATION FREE!!!!
walle_ras says2015-04-03T15:38:59.1055135-05:00
And still be unconstitutional.
retrogamer176 says2015-04-03T15:41:51.8888983-05:00
@walle_ras what amendment says that we can't cut military spendings?
TBR says2015-04-03T15:44:58.7759947-05:00
@walle_ras saysApril 3 - "The post office cost 13.4 billion." This is completely WRONG. Attempt to source that. Just try. Seriously. Give it a shot.
TBR says2015-04-03T16:02:03.1977685-05:00
@retrogamer176 - He is talking about Education. It is very arguable that the fed financing public education is unconstitutional. That could (and would) be changed with an amendment to put this to rest.
walle_ras says2015-04-03T16:03:00.8078299-05:00
When I am finished with school.
retrogamer176 says2015-04-03T17:19:50.4306054-05:00
@TBR ok, so what amendment do people use to defend that?
TBR says2015-04-03T17:25:37.0982869-05:00
Well retrogamer176. There is nothing enumerating spending on education in the constitution. Some (conservatives) will say that any spending not enumerated is unconstitutional. As for what gives the federal government rights to spend on education, the general welfare clause is clear enough. We can spend on "the general welfare" of the population of the nation. I sure include education as a part of "general welfare", and Hamilton agrees with ME.
retrogamer176 says2015-04-03T17:31:28.2877060-05:00
@TBR I was asking for the amendment number.
TBR says2015-04-03T17:43:13.4699435-05:00
I see. Well it is on there two placed. THE PREAMABLE. It is also in the "tax clause" of article 1. So... This was real importian to the founders.
Texas14 says2015-04-04T00:14:00.6127206-05:00
For anyone who voted no, are you aware of how much of our military budget is defense vs how much of it is unnecessary? We built a base in Baghdad that costs billions of dollars that we hardly use now. Why do we have bases in Korea? It's their dictator we're concerned about, not their border. We shouldn't cut defense, but we should cut the large portion of our military budget that is unnecessary.
58539672 says2015-04-04T11:03:18.5748968-05:00
@Texas14 The amount of money the US spends to maintain our overseas is just over 10 billion dollars per year. Most of that goes to our bases in Germany, Japan, and South Korea. 10 billion, although it sounds like a big number, is a drop in the bucket compared to the entire budget. What really costs a lot is our wars. Leaving Iraq saved us over 100 billion dollars per year (which was almost immediately removed from the defense budget). When we leave Afghanistan we will see a similar drop. Bases are cheap, wars are expensive.
Texas14 says2015-04-04T11:16:14.3917955-05:00
I totally agree. I don't like wars and I certainly don't like the military intervention that we do unconstitutionally that costs us so much money.
Texas14 says2015-04-04T11:16:58.7366966-05:00
And those wars don't help make us safer. We would be safer if we weren't over there.
TBR says2015-04-04T11:18:09.2165930-05:00
You both are absolutely right. Up thread we have people bickering about pennies in the budget, while the real damage goes unaddressed. WAR.
