  • This just puts the nail in the validity of the Anglican claim of apostolic authority.

  • The man is the head, a picture of Christ. Men are not better than women, but they have been given leadership responsibility from God.

Lol the majority of people voting on this are atheists.

And...?
Zylorarchy says2014-07-20T15:54:42.9560902-05:00
Discomfiting: Agreed.
Geogeer says2014-07-20T15:55:01.7544517-05:00
So why should a bunch of atheists care about or even understand the theological implications of such an action? It is like a dog caring about the social order of cats. Not relevant.

Geogeer: Sexism is unacceptable in a civilised country, no matter what sort of an organisation it is present in. Be it a business, a religion, a government or simply a domestic household, both sexes should be equal and to deny one the opportunities available to the other, is nothing other than unjustifiably discrimination. Not to mention, this has not even been forced by law, the Church itself voted for this...

Even if you disregard the irreligious votes, there's so more Christians that say 'yes' than 'no'.
Geogeer says2014-07-20T16:02:08.6410609-05:00
@discomfiiting - most Christians don't actually understand the implications of this. They have long disassociated themselves from any Church continuity and sacraments.
Geogeer says2014-07-20T16:04:31.9454167-05:00
@zylorarchy - You do not understand the nature of it. Christianity has done more for equality of sexes than anyone else. The fact that it views the sexes as equal but different is lost on people who only view the organization as power and not sacrifice.
Zylorarchy says2014-07-20T16:06:54.9221662-05:00
Geogeer: In the UK at least, it was the women themselves that did more than anyone else. Not to mention the impact of the Second World War in particular showed that women really weren't inferior. If Christianity has done so much, and I am not denying it, why do people oppose such things? The fact is, in a modern society, equality is seen (rightly so) as equal opportunities. If an organisation goes against this, I am sorry but they are backward.
Geogeer says2014-07-20T16:09:48.5535052-05:00
This is because you do not understand the sacrifice of the mass and the theology involved. This just goes to show that the CoE is now making things up instead of providing continuity of doctrine.
Zylorarchy says2014-07-20T16:12:38.3405779-05:00
Geogeer: The doctrine is wrong, and the CoE have recognised that. Everything changes, it has to as morality changes for the better. Let us not forget that the Bible was not written by God (assuming he exists for the purpose of this discussion), but by people.
discomfiting says2014-07-20T16:13:27.4968081-05:00
Zylorarchy, you can't teach an old dog, new tricks. It's a lost cause.
Geogeer says2014-07-20T16:15:58.7242235-05:00
If doctrine is wrong then then Christ lied. If Christ lied then he is not God. If he is not God then the people belonging to the CoE are wasting their time. The bible is the inspired word of God.

Geogeer - The claim by any Religion of apostolic authority has been laughable for the last century at least.
Geogeer says2014-07-20T18:28:16.2748660-05:00
@kreakin - what would be your contention for that?
Kreakin says2014-07-21T13:35:30.9504611-05:00
Geogeer - logic. Read some philosophy. The Church these days is seen as a social club for the needy in the UK but that's ok we understand and have sympathy for thoses people. That's pretty compationate given the historical evils they have forced apon us. Look at religion in Iraq now, still persecuting people in the name of the current god. The whole things exploitative and unpleasant.
Zylorarchy says2014-07-21T13:43:20.2452611-05:00
Geogeer: That does not somehow mean that the word of one man over 2000 years ago is strict morality forever. Face it, many of the views of Christianity are outdated. This is a step towards rectifying that, and is a good thing.
Geogeer says2014-07-22T17:51:44.5937982-05:00
@Kreakin - and that is precisely why the CoE is dying. It has abandoned any apostolic mission that it may once have had. This decision was the final nail in the coffin of any apostolic legitimacy that it may have actually claimed. You're argument is that because muslims are perpetrating atrocities in the name of their religion that Christianity is false? Bizarre argument.
Geogeer says2014-07-22T17:53:22.0492472-05:00
@zylorarchy - If he is only man then your statement is true. If he was not only a man then your statement is false.
