Theoretically, if for whatever magical spookily woo reason you found out that one religion is actually real, in order to save your soul which religion would you choose and why?

Posted by: xhammy

This is a question geared towards atheists; just for the sake which would you choose and why? This is under the impression that you already thought they were all false, but which you would think to be most probable. (In the scenario your goal is to not go to hell or something so don't just choose based on hatred towards religions).

Satanism

Satanism is a broad group of social movements comprising diverse ideological and philosophical beliefs. Their shared features include symbolic association with or admiration for Satan, whom Satanists see as an inspiring figure to self development and independence. It was estimated that there were 50,000 Satanists in 1990. There may be as many as one hundred thousand Satanists in the world.Particularly after the European Enlightenment, some works, such as Paradise Lost, were taken up by Romantics and described as presenting the biblical Satan as an allegory representing a crisis of faith, individualism, free will, wisdom and enlightenment. Those works actually featuring Satan as a heroic character are fewer in number but do exist. George Bernard Shaw and Mark Twain included such characterizations in their works long before religious Satanists took up the pen. From then on, Satan and Satanism started to gain a new meaning outside of Christianity.Although the public practice of Satanism began with the founding of The Church of Satan in 1966, historical precedents exist: a group called the Ophite Cultus Satanas was founded in Ohio by Herbert Arthur Sloane in 1948.

If you are religious then you can only hurt the poll so either don't vote or vote this.

Buddhism is a nontheistic religion that encompasses a variety of traditions, beliefs and practices largely based on teachings attributed to Siddhartha Gautama, who is commonly known as the Buddha, meaning "the awakened one". According to Buddhist tradition, the Buddha lived and taught in the eastern part of the Indian subcontinent sometime between the 6th and 4th centuries BCE. He is recognized by Buddhists as an awakened or enlightened teacher who shared his insights to help sentient beings end their suffering through the elimination of ignorance and craving by way of understanding and the seeing of dependent origination and the Four Noble Truths, with the ultimate goal of attainment of the sublime state of Nirvana, by practicing the Noble Eightfold Path. Two major extant branches of Buddhism are generally recognized: Theravada and Mahayana. Theravada has a widespread following in Sri Lanka and Southeast Asia. Mahayana is found throughout East Asia and includes the traditions of Pure Land, Zen, Nichiren Buddhism, Tibetan Buddhism, Shingon, and Tiantai.

Judaism is the religion, philosophy, and way of life of the Jewish people. Judaism is a monotheistic religion, with the Torah as its foundational text, and supplemental oral tradition represented by later texts such as the Midrash and the Talmud. Judaism is considered by religious Jews to be the expression of the covenantal relationship that God established with the Children of Israel.Judaism includes a wide corpus of texts, practices, theological positions, and forms of organization. Within Judaism there are a variety of movements, most of which emerged from Rabbinic Judaism, which holds that God revealed his laws and commandments to Moses on Mount Sinai in the form of both the Written and Oral Torah. Historically, this assertion was challenged by various groups such as the Sadducees and Hellenistic Judaism during the Second Temple period; the Karaites and Sabbateans during the early and later medieval period; and among segments of the modern reform movements. Liberal movements in modern times such as Humanistic Judaism may be nontheistic. Today, the largest Jewish religious movements are Orthodox Judaism, Conservative Judaism and Reform Judaism.

Islam is a monotheistic and Abrahamic religion articulated by the Qur'an, a book considered by its adherents to be the verbatim word of God, and for some sects, also by the teachings and normative example of Muhammad, considered by them to be the last prophet of God. An adherent of Islam is called a Muslim.Muslims believe that God is one and incomparable and that the purpose of existence is to worship God. Muslims also believe that Islam is the complete and universal version of a primordial faith that was revealed many times before through prophets including Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, and Jesus. They maintain that the previous messages and revelations have been partially misinterpreted or altered over time, but consider the Arabic Qur'an to be both the unaltered and the final revelation of God. Religious concepts and practices include the five pillars of Islam, which are basic concepts and obligatory acts of worship, and following Islamic law, which touches on virtually every aspect of life and society, providing guidance on multifarious topics from banking and welfare, to family life and the environment.

This question isn't very well posed. This is asking us which we see as true. The way you're asking it's like I am a Christian who realized that Islam was true and became a Buddhist.
xhammy says2015-05-08T14:42:42.7030145-05:00
@theMarquin no because I stated that the pole is for atheists and already religious people should not vote or vote already religious. However I made the mistake of including satanism and so every one is voting it as a joke and not taking the pole seriously
Juan_Pablo says2015-05-08T14:45:05.4015159-05:00
Satanism, hands down!
Juan_Pablo says2015-05-08T14:48:24.1995732-05:00
Well, I guess the compromise is that human life wont live forever, so I guess it's okay.

I used to be a Buddhist. I greatly respect the philosophies of Islam, Buddhism, and follow those of Satanism without being any of those religions. But what I'd probably go for isn't on here. I would probably either swing Jain or Sikh.
BblackkBbirdd says2015-05-08T15:24:28.3507070-05:00
This question is phrased really badly, if I discovered which religion was true I wouldn't get to pick. Are you trying to ask atheists which religion they find the most plausible?
PetersSmith says2015-05-08T17:53:29.0505448-05:00
Atheists are just the best, choosing Satanism and all.
Juan_Pablo says2015-05-08T20:34:25.0948104-05:00
<---pantheist, not atheist. I didn't choose Satan. Satan chose me, unfortunately.
briantheliberal says2015-05-09T01:37:32.5938268-05:00
PetersSmith, it's an option and we have a right to choose it.
Juan_Pablo says2015-05-09T01:39:40.9981201-05:00
Brian, that you do have. The truth is--even though I stand against it--some of Satanism's values can be beneficial in this world. I would be lying if I told you all of them were garbage. That just aint so.
briantheliberal says2015-05-09T02:24:55.7645811-05:00
Actually, satanism is a broad term that refers to a number of social movements associated with many different ideological and philosophical beliefs. Not all Satanists believe or practice the same things. Many argue that Satanism isn't a religion at all, but a cult-like political movement.
Diqiucun_Cunmin says2015-05-09T08:18:06.3822737-05:00
P1: Hedonism is evil. P2: Satanism embraces hedonism. C: Satanism is evil.
Juan_Pablo says2015-05-10T19:03:49.8717519-05:00
No. Satanism isn't the way to go. Choose a more benevolent religious system. These are life-promoting and can ACTUALLY BENEFIT THE HUMAN RACE!
Legendary_Houp says2015-05-18T08:14:00.9790018-05:00
Do you mean like if you could pick one religion that you wanted to be true, which one would you pick?
Midnight1131 says2015-05-18T14:10:04.8756944-05:00
He means if you found out that one religion was true, but you didn't know which one. Which would you pick.
xhammy says2015-05-18T14:11:53.3906856-05:00
Thank you midnight, your the only one here with a brain it seems.
kawoodson says2015-06-17T20:51:48.5138813-05:00
I would pick the whichever religion that proved itself to be true. If I had to pick to be true it would be Buddhism. It's a beautiful religion
