"No doubt, prostitution cause personal, family and social
disorganization. The prostitutes suffer from deterioration .The
prostitute and the person who approaches her lead a sort of
‘double life’. They suffer from moral collapse and loose their
status and position which other respectable men and women
enjoy in society. Respectable people hate them, avoid their
company and want to isolate them in society. As a result, the
pimp and the prostitute become ‘hated and isolated islands’.
They lead a life with their own definition of promiscuous sex
conduct and a life with their own definitions of promiscuous sex
conduct and immoral principle. This will be quite different from
the society’s conception of morality.
The man who approaches a prostitute may be contaminated with
venereal diseases. If married he may communicate the disease to
his wife and children. The children born to the parents having
venereal diseases are likely to be maintained for life and many a
time are born blind. The illegitimate and adulterous sexual
union, if known to the wives, brings tension in the family and
ultimately to desertion to divorce. There are clinical and
psychoanalytic evidence to show that many young men who had"
Anyone can take a quote from a research paper and prove something. For example (although slightly outdated), prostitution being legal can be linked to a lower rate of sexual offences. "In this paper I examine the hypothesis that the frequency of rape is increased when another source of sex (prostitution) is limited or unavailable. To test this theory I regressed the rape rate in available OECD countries against a proxy for the availability of prostitution. The relationship was found to be anti-correlated at about the 90% confidence level. Using this model, it is estimated that if prostitution were legalized in the United States, the rape rate would decrease by roughly 25% for a decrease of approximately 25,000 rapes per year."
You can say that for both sides though. It is like proving video games are violent, studies can also point to the opposite (though my personal belief is that they do not cause violence). I am sure I could easily find research which does suggest that prostitution does reduce crime.
Perhaps you can, and you SHOULD find some data which is more credible because then, your argument is much more legitimate. Also, the data I found was done by an organization which has quite a few credible supporters.
And an actual case where prostitution was technically "legal" from 1980 until 2009 (though this only became known really in 2003).
May I say though this is not really just throwing evidence at one another... That should really on be present when backing up our own claims.
http://johnrlott.blogspot.co.uk/2009/09/what-impact-did-legalizing-prostitution.html (The example I forgot to put in. Only a blog but relevent none the less it shows an actual example of legalised prostitution in the US).
Damn. Haroush, I disagree with you this time. This debate should be changed to the question of weather or not prostitution should be legal. Haroush you are giving examples of illegal, dangerous, and unfavorable prostitution in the form of street walkers and pimps.
In the illegal life style, it is dangerous. Rapes, Disease, Murder, Beatings, Social distress, and double lives are all horrible things for a woman, and man, to go through.
However there are places where prostitution is legal. There is a place outside of the city in which I live. It is a legal brothel. Places like this take very good care of the women who are employed there. These women choose to work there, and they can leave when ever they want. They can even show up and not have sex with any paying man or woman who shows up. It is all her choice.
The women also have security. In places like these they are not breaking the law. There are security cameras, and security on site to ensure the safety of the girls. Women who work there have to get (I believe) monthly exams and blood work to be sure that they haven't caught any thing. If they have they are not aloud to work any more. This prevents the spread of infection and disease. It doesn't start with the women there. Men, and women, who come in to buy sex from the girls also have to be checked. If the refuse their service is refused. The working women are safe in that respect too.
The women who work in these places, choose this career, and make their own hours. They can go in for maybe 1 hour to 40 hours a week. It is up to them. They enjoy the work, the business, and the safety. They also don't have to hide. Many of them are not married (obviously) but their families are not (totally) against it. There can still be problems, but the girls are safe, and make all the decisions.
I almost forgot. The women choose which sexual acts they are willing to do, and they will not do any act other than those acts.
But not all men go in for sex. Some people go in those places because they need some one to talk to. Who better than some one who is getting paid to listen. And with out those expensive therapy sessions.
So I say Prostitution should be legal so long as it is in these legal brothels.
Disagreeing with me is inevitable. I am very unique to today's society and that's for sure. Anyways, if prostitution was made legal like in the case you presented, I would argue the same people who are involved in these crime rings in illegal prostitution would end up being the owners of these businesses. This in turn would present a great danger to society. For one, people who are involved in crime rings tend to find ways around the law.
This then creates a domino effect as far as many misdemeanor crimes being got away with. Therefore, all the problems that were present in illegal prostitution would become present in illegal prostitution.
As far as sitting down with a prostitute (Lmao) talking to them about my issues.. I'd probably break out a Bible and ask, "Do you believe in G-d?" Then have a conversation about G-d and why he is so important in our lives. That's personally what I'd do.
Lol, anyways, please present how you'd make this problem I presented get fixed?
Just to make my argument more credible.. This is a very real problem here in the U.S. People involved in crime rings tend to find ways of creating businesses and then using a good portion of their profits to support their crime ring.
In the legal brothels that are around today, the owners, and the girls working there get extensive background checks. The police also monitor them to make sure that no illegal or dangerous activity takes place.
