@Dtaylor, are you really conservative. It seemed you were very liberal.
@Discomfitting, how does that relate to welfare? The link says social security
Nvm, I opened it. Quite funny, and I didn't know that
They say o now but when they have no other options, that'll quickly change.
No*
Most likely.
My dad used to say how unemployment and welfare was so wrong and was draining America but then he got unemployment and experienced it first hand and boy did his opinion change.
Did he receive UI? Was he forced to attend government retraining programs? If so, did he get reemployed?
I know a lot of Conservatives who experienced this and they surely became liberal after experiencing first hand what it was like to be underprivileged and in need of assistance.
Agreed. Hopefully if they make some concessions into welfare as well, we can make the economic argument other countries were able to create.
@Khaos, the problem with your statement, is that the people who get UI had also once payed for the insurance, with their money. Which makes your opposition seem quite funny to me.
Of course they would...They just don't want anyone else to....Epic frauds
This is a common misconception.. Conservatives like myself don't mind welfare, it is when it becomes an entitlement to live off of government, we have a problem with. Welfare was never meant to be a program for people to leach off of despite the fact they are perfectly capable of working. I just want to make clear, I am not talking about those people who are disabled.
The problem I see with most libertarians and GOP members is they constantly propose bills to practically destroy it. That doesn't seem like a misconception. And since the majority of people who go on welfare eventually get out, its hardly an entitlement. And we can easily work together to insure that people receive their benefits while also insuring they still look for work, but this abolishing welfare,UI, and social security $hit will kill the GOP. They need to have some middle ground, or they will continue to be outnumbered by the democrats overall.
Who is out there saying we want to abolish the welfare system altogether, specifically?
Rand Paul

Ironically, I know one Republican who (during this Great Recession) saw both his daughters & son in-law lose jobs. We noted that he was less "vocal" about assistance, afterwards. And we wondered why? His family needed the help & was taking whatever they could get. I personally saw his daughter use an EBT card, at the supermarket. So, yes, they will use the aid if they need it (despite the preaching that they do)!
Rhodesia 79 Have you ever driven on a road? Used the library? Needed the police, fireman, paramedics? Did you go to public schools? Did you ever go to a national park? Then you have already used socialist programs. Ooopps.
Rhodesia you already use socialist programs daily
He doesn't understand socialism. Anything paid for by thee government is socialist.
Anything other than physical protection.
Actually, I guess not
Technically voluntary government protection is socialist if its provided by the government. The problem we face, is how much socialism.
Jiff, if you get letters saying I voted several times, I did not intentionally. My computer spassed out.
You're right jifpop
I never realised how much we agreed since I stated paying attention to you.
I think there should be a drug test for people who want to apply for welfare.
So do I.
And they need to be legal immigrants.
UI was paid from my labor so I have no qualms Welfare, you bet I'd take, for I have no qualms for this very reason
Sure, but when a lot of people are on welfare, who's paying for them? The people with actual jobs.
Oh the generalizations some people make....
Yes... because they probably paid the most into the programs via taxes.
Pretty odd to think I can get by without any cash. It wouldn't be a choice i think.
I would use the money to get back on my feet so I can get a good job. That is what welfare is for.
I paid into the insurance trust fund. I am taking what is rightfully mine.
I don't think I would, but I'm not sure if I may be persuaded.
I will never give in!
savings
I would get anger job. There is employment out there just not necessarily at the wage people want, because benefits is higher. I would accept benefits only if I had no option, but I would work to earn less than my entitled benefits rather than accept them and condemn myself to taking from others.
