True or False: White males are unfairly discriminated against.

Posted by: propinquity

I remember seeing this as a commonly held opinion before, and I was curious about whether or not it was true.

Everyone thinks that they're discriminated against and that someone else has some unfair privilege. They often neglect to see their own unique privileges in the process.
propinquity says2015-03-31T18:19:23.2210256-05:00
Well, this is unsurprising.
Kreakin says2015-03-31T18:20:49.1882305-05:00
People do tend to blame white men for the evils of the world though.
Vox_Veritas says2015-03-31T18:23:15.4035813-05:00
Gays think that they're discriminated against, but if you "come out" people will pretty much award you the Nobel Prize. But of course, they do suffer some discrimination. Christians do enjoy some privileges. But at the same time, they have been made into the Media's punching bag.
propinquity says2015-03-31T18:27:38.0332949-05:00
I hardly think that's a statement you can universally apply to any situation, that being gay means you will be showered with accolades. It sounds like you are biased from anectodal experience.
propinquity says2015-03-31T18:29:02.4594125-05:00
There are many counterexamples to your statement. I'm not sure if it's even worth engaging.
Kreakin says2015-03-31T18:32:19.7188835-05:00
White men are presumed to have advantages so sometimes the help goes to others perceived as less advantaged. That is clear discrimination based on stereotyping.

(Little Pete walks into living room where Conservative parents are sitting) Little Pete: Uh, mom? Dad? I think I'm gay. (Huffington Post employees suddenly appear; they throw graffiti into the air and sound off noisemakers) Media Person: Congratulations, Pete! You're going to appear on live television in 3 days, where you'll tell us your life story and likely be awarded the Congressional Medal!

Inb4 briantheliberal runs in and mindlessly insults everyone who said yes
Stefy says2015-03-31T20:46:13.6938825-05:00
Mindless? I think briantheliberal is one of the few on here with a mind.
briantheliberal says2015-03-31T22:01:06.3302494-05:00
Mister_Man, I don't have to "mindlessly insult" you, you already insulted yourself when you voted 'yes' on this poll.
shaancl_716 says2015-03-31T22:03:08.1646874-05:00
Seriously? Can you all get over yourselves. It is a freaking poll. I do not understand why people on the site get so freaking petty.
propinquity says2015-03-31T22:11:05.1285724-05:00
People get petty because the medium of where a topic is discussed doesn't change the seriousness or the personal offense that the topic may cause or have.

Briantheliberal reminds me of the liberal media, it's biased, and insults everything it doesn't agree with
briantheliberal says2015-03-31T22:17:09.1343056-05:00
This is the internet, everyone is petty.
briantheliberal says2015-03-31T22:17:49.0541938-05:00
Futurepresident2048, you described the conservative media perfectly.

People, people, calm down. Are white men unfairly discriminated against? Yes. Are all of them? Hell, no. Is it as widespread as other discriminations? Probably not. A white man applies to any male who is caucasian, so I'm not seeing where any logic is coming in to support saying "no", and besides I have physically SEEN white men being discriminated against as white men, and for no other reason, and I know others have seen this as well because it also happens on public venues and TV, it's just as commonplace as any other discrimination, so, I don't even know how to answer to the people that are under the impression it doesn't happen: dis·crim·i·na·tion dəˌskriməˈnāSH(ə)n noun noun discrimination plural noun discriminations 1. The unjust or prejudicial treatment of different categories of people or things, especially on the grounds of race, age, or sex.
Stefy says2015-03-31T22:44:10.8583140-05:00
Yeah matbe a few as individuals but not as a demograohic. And a mean comment or two doesnt suffice. Whitecmen have bot expirenced real discrimination based on their race and gender alone.
58539672 says2015-03-31T22:47:19.6470936-05:00
No, he described both sides perfectly. The extreme ends of the spectrum both have their heads so far up their own @ss that Im still amazed that they are more vocal than more moderate individuals.
Black-Jesus says2015-03-31T22:48:25.2449006-05:00
I do not speak of a "mean comment or two" I am speaking of widespread discrimination. If you have ever been inside a community of another race other than white, especially in other countries where whites are the minority, white males are treated with as much prejudice as black men in backwater Southern American communities
tajshar2k says2015-04-14T21:13:16.2045758-05:00
I guess it depends on where your from. In Chicago, whites seem to get along with others fine.
Sophia13 says2015-04-15T10:51:16.3749463-05:00
Exactly how are white males discriminated against? The only thing I can think of: their media image. Yes, the media male has large muscles and barely any fat on him. But compared to white females' media image? It's no contest. White males have some stereotypes, yes, but they're the least discriminated against of all the races and genders.

Moved to Silicon Valley due to my Chinese wife moving here for work as a tennis instructor. I am close to middle age and am a white male. I have 2 degrees; in Computer Science and Elecrical Engineering. I have been directly told by companies that I would not be hired due to my age, my race, and my gender. Walk along the streets of these tech companies, the majority of the employees are young twenties Indian and Chinese. I would file for SSI due to unable to work based on these companies beliefs, but that would be racist..... As a result, I'm moving back to Michigan, where I can actually find work.
