The problem is it's different for boys and girls. It looks like because boys invest more into muscle development and bigger organs like hart, lungs, etc their brain develops slower. So that's why the girl in a relationship is often 2 years younger, their minds are probably of similar development. Thus it's entirely possible that boys become adults (realize they want to be moral, in my opinion) at 18, while girls become adults at 16.
I'm not a girl though, so if there's a decision to be made here I'll let the girls/women make that decision.
It's difficult to say, because we don't want to make a too low so someone with a low age will be legally taken advantage of by adults. However we should have it low enough so that when younger couples have sex there aren't legal issues when there shouldn't be any.
Maybe there should be an alternative. Like it;s legal for 15-18 year old's to have sex with each other, but it wouldn't be legal for 15-17 year olds to have sex with someone over 20 or something like that.
And Greg and Texas, up in Canada we have similar laws. It's legal for 14+ year olds to have sex with someone 5 years or less older, if that makes sense. So basically a 14 year old can have sex with someone 19 or younger, 15 with someone 20 or younger. 16 is the age to consent to sex with anyone, and 18 is the age to consent to sex with an authoritative figure, someone much older, like a teacher or sugar daddy ;) and to consent to being in porn.
Well it all depends on the case taj. Some 16 year olds might not be ready, but neither will some 18 year olds, 20 year olds, you name it. Yes some 16 year olds are "Dumb as fuck" but that stretches across all ages. Anyways my point is there's a point where we shouldn't make laws to protect those who need it because of those who are ready.
Yet, like I said there's a point where we shouldn't baby and protect people with the law because we don't think they can protect themselves, because it eventually get's to the point where it does more harm than good and I think 18 is slightly past that point.
Yeah to punish or disallow groups of people from doing things because other groups of people are stupid or immature is probably worse than allowing everyone to do something. The "dumb" kids will have sex anyway, they don't care about the laws. I mean everyone will anyway LOL but the point is to make something illegal that a huge portion of the population can handle perfectly fine is ridiculous.
How do you determine when an older person is "taking advantage" of a younger person? If a 16 year old boy approaches a 40 year old woman and asks if they can have sex, is she taking advantage of him? What if the boy is 18? Then all of a sudden she's not even though he's only 2 years older?
