This site has made me a bit more moderate. I was pretty right when I joined an another account a year or more ago but the diversity and exposure to other ideas has left me moving toward the middle a bit more. I used to think being gay was a choice, evolution was false, and strongly opposed ssm. I hold none of those stances now.
Pro torture: I saw a documentary on Abu Gharib
Abortion: Really I'm still anti abortion, but I decided my choice shouldn't effect the freedom of other people from aborting their child. So I'm pro choice, but anti abortion
Anti-Welfare: Thought all poor people were poor cause they were stupid, but I went to a ghetto neighboorhood in Chicago, and talked to some people. Certainly isn't the case.
@triangle.128k LOL I was a Green Partier at one point in my life until I sat down one day and thought to myself "Why do I ignore the facts" and realized how much I've been ignoring reality. I still am a radical environmentalist though...
@tajshar2k No, I don't believe in no regulation. I just believe in a little less regulation and more free markets. But I agree on the government getting involved sometimes. I think one particular place which needs some more government interference is the food industry, thanks to the high obesity rates in US.
Also, pollution is becoming less and less of an issue thanks to technological advancement. Renewable energy sources are becoming better and more frequently used as time passes, so I don't really worry as much about the environment as I used to.
@mystery_man43 But young earth creation has literally no evidence. You're just denying all scientific facts and saying YEC is true because of the bible. It doesn't even say anywhere in the bible about the earth's age.
@triangle.128k I'm sorry, but pollution is still a HUGE problem in China. In fact, almost 75 percent of China's major cities failed to meet air quality standards in June this year. I don't think that's called making progress which I assume you are suggesting is happening with the "technological advancements" that are supposed to help with all the pollution.
I know but the problem is declining as technology progresses. China's economic boom and rapid urbanization has brought millions of people out of poverty. They're now soon to pass the USA's economy. They're coming closer to superpower status as well.
@tajshar2k Yes! Oh my gosh. Yes! Why don't people get that? The Amazon Rainforest is being destroyed, how can people say that there are plenty of trees left when, at this rate, half of the Amazon will be gone by 2030!
Also, you could comfortably fit the whole world's population in a large city the size of Alaska or a bit larger. There is still plenty of wildlife and natural land and all. But I do agree on some restrictions to preserve the enviornment.
IMO we need to highly tax companies who are harming the environment.
