Which is better: typical contemporary music or the classics of the 20th century?

The newer, technologically reliant music that is respectably catchy vs. The older classics which arguably have more substance and actual voice talent (excuse the bias (:

  • I don't mind either. I am in band and play saxophone. We play both modern as well as classics in either pep, marching or symphonic/concert types of stuff. xD Though most popular modern music nowadays have no meaning, some do have actually good enough messages or at least a catchy tune. I do love my classics as well though.

  • I feel like older music had so much more feeling and energy put into them.

  • I'm listening to Because by The Beatles right now, so...

  • In fairness there was a lot of crap in the 20th century as well, everything is remembered fondly when you look back but even so, i think the greatest acts of the 20th century far outweigh the greatest acts of the current century, in so much as, if the world stopped today, and you had to name the biggest stars in the world today, i don't really think Rihanna, Katy Perry and umm Justin Beiber? (i have no clue) compare to the biggest stars of 20th century

  • I am a violinist who is being classically trained and my love of music leads me to chose the more classic rock artists because of their talent and hard work and passion that you hear in the music rather than the modern style which is usually created with electronic soundboards and modern technology which I find to be a bit more superficial.

  • Better than songs which are about things like buttocks

Ahh they both have negatives and positives its not like every song released in the 20th century was great either.

Very true! For example, I love the song Jukebox Hero by Foreigner but I also love the song Anaconda by Nicki Minaj.
