Brian - some people have the idea pushing them around that if gays are allowed to get married, the whole meaning of marriage would disappear, and it could be detrimental to children if the gay couple adopted a child, as there wouldn't be an equal amount of male to female interaction. Although this is actually kind of an okay reason, I still think it's ridiculous to deny people happiness for that reason or reasons otherwise.
@briantheliberal-"I can actually understand why someone would be against abortion" that is the nicest comment I have seen you say. Of course I only recently joined DDO so I haven't seen many of your comments.
There is no "meaning of marriage" outside of our own interpretations. Having children has nothing to do with marriage, and even if it did, there are plenty of studies that prove there is no detriment to the overall health and well-being of children raised by same sex couples, in fact on average they tend to be better parents in general.
FreedomBeforeEquality, No actually we haven't been over this. And yet you agree that businesses should have the freedom to discriminate against homosexuals, but they also take tax money from homosexuals in order for their businesses to open and run efficiently. So again, feel free to find an argument that doesn't contradict your viewpoints.
Taxes are the "root of all evil" ? Taxes are what build the society we live in. Without taxes there would be no fire department, no police department, no hospitals... The only thing that makes taxes evil are the people who manipulate their usage.
Freedom: you know those brave soldiers who defend America, you know those brave firemen who protect us, well all of them are paid by your taxes. The vests and guns they use to protect themselves and the people of Afganistan and Iraq were paid for with all of our taxes. As you can see taxes keep our society going strong.
" The only thing that makes taxes evil are the people who manipulate their usage.''
You couldn't possibly mean like making controlling statements like this could you?
"And yet you agree that businesses should have the freedom to discriminate against homosexuals, but they also take tax money from homosexuals in order for their businesses to open and run efficiently. "
Where in this statement are you not trying to control peoples private businesses with your .00000000000000001 cent tax contribution to heir business? Sounds like using tax to manipulate to me.
"Freedom: you know those brave soldiers who defend America''
Sure I do, I'm one of them.
And I'm not arguing the need for an armed force. I'm arguing that, from this lump sum of tax, a portion goes to that armed force or other necessities while the rest gets pulled into much more frivolous endeavors. Basically all the things congress has found ''necessary and proper for carrying into Execution'' powers they do not have ... Or should not have ever been amended to have.
Whether it is frivolous or not is decided case by case but in general taxes are not the root of all evil, they provide defense (through national guard, military, police, firemen) infustructre, education, healthcare, and exploration.
Each of those is a case in itself. But I can tell you now ... None of the ones that give people like Brian the idea that they get some say in the life of another ... All those ones in your list are wrong (evil). Excessive tax provided for them and is at their root.
In case you weren't able to tell which ones those are ... Let me enlighten you ...
Exploration (for anything aside from defense)
These are frivolous and are funded in large by people who do not necessarily need or want those services.
National guard, police, firemen, and infrastructure are all locally funded and done primarily by people who partake in the services provided. In fact id even argue that infrastructure taxed too far outside a particular district is wrong as well.
Another fun fact is that only half the United States Citizenry would be generally happier with less tax because less than half of them even pay taxes in the first place!
I know why most of you don't agree with me on this. I should be pleading this coming from a minority status really. I wish you people would quit trampling on me and having me fund your healthcare and retirement. You certainly haven't earned it.
@freedombeforeequality please tell me your not talking about those people with 2 full time jobs that still cannot afford taxes.
If so, then you know why they don't pay. So of COURSE they would be happier.
If not, then I apologize.
Whether its locally funded or federally funded doesnt change its definition, its still taxes. Also I can tell you that healthcare, education and exploration are not frivolous but that is a debate for a nouther time, instead you need to prove that these things are evil, I certainly dont consider curing people or educating them as malevolent.
"I don't know much about taxes (i'm in high school) so I won't argue''
Assume away. Just another reason why I regret funding your high school education. I have failed you in that I directly funded it ... Yet allowed liberals and non taxpayers to write your curriculum. I've done you a disservice sir. I aim to correct that for future students out there.
"You wanna tell me how they are avoiding the sales tax?"
Making necessities like food non taxable. Subsidizing their incomes offsets any tax they might pay.
Its convoluted yes, but they do get by them without paying a net positive value into the system.
"I'm pretty sure I'm not gonna work in politics, so if I'm productive in society and have a full time job, would I still be a failure?''
If you still vote, you might as well be working in politics. If you partake in certain programs and government turns around and uses numbers that you directly contributed to to justify a program, by association you are still doing equal damage.
