Atheism
While this one isn't actually a region, some people do say that it's the least tolerant 'religion' etc... So I added it anyway.2 comments

Buddhism
Buddhism is a nontheistic religion that encompasses a variety of traditions, beliefs and practices largely based on teachings attributed to Siddhartha Gautama, who is commonly known as the Buddha, meaning "the awakened one". According to Buddhist tr... adition, the Buddha lived and taught in the eastern part of the Indian subcontinent sometime between the 6th and 4th centuries BCE. He is recognized by Buddhists as an awakened or enlightened teacher who shared his insights to help sentient beings end their suffering through the elimination of ignorance and craving by way of understanding and the seeing of dependent origination, with the ultimate goal of attainment of the sublime state of nirvana. Two major branches of Buddhism are generally recognized: Theravada and Mahayana. Theravada has a widespread following in Sri Lanka and Southeast Asia. Mahayana is found throughout East Asia and includes the traditions of Pure Land, Zen, Nichiren Buddhism, Tibetan Buddhism, Shingon, and Tiantai. In some classifications, Vajrayana—practiced mainly in Tibet and Mongolia, and adjacent parts of China and Russia—is recognized as a third branch, while others classify it as a part of Mahayana more0 comments

Hinduism
Hinduism is the dominant religion of the Indian subcontinent, particularly of India and Nepal, which consists of many diverse traditions. It includes Shaivism, Vaishnavism and Shaktism among numerous other traditions, and a wide spectrum of laws and... prescriptions of "daily morality" based on karma, dharma, and societal norms. Hinduism is a categorisation of distinct intellectual or philosophical points of view, rather than a rigid, common set of beliefs.Hinduism has been called the "oldest religion" in the world, and many practitioners refer to Hinduism as Sanātana Dharma, "the eternal law" or the "eternal way" beyond human origins. It prescribes the "eternal" duties all Hindus have to follow, regardless of class, caste, or sect, such as honesty, purity, and self-restraint.Western scholars regard Hinduism as a fusion or synthesis of various Indian cultures and traditions, with diverse roots and no single founder. Among its roots are the Vedic religion of the late Vedic period and its emphasis on the status of Brahmans, but also the religions of the Indus Valley Civilisation, the Sramana or renouncer traditions of north-east India, and "popular or local traditions". This "Hindu synthesis" emerged around the beginning of the Common Era, and co-existed for several centuries with Buddhism, to finally gain the upper hand in most royal circles during the 8th century CE more0 comments
Only 7% of wars happen with religion as a factor.
Nikidavis- Actually, only 20% of the world's Muslim population lives in the Middle East and North Africa. The majority of Muslims (60% of the global Muslim population) is in Asia.
Some people will never learn Social..
Most wars are over land and the goods, which a piece of land maintains. Everyone has to put a dollar value on something that isn't even theirs.
Now why does everything in the poll, save the bog three religions, have an explanation?
Haroush- atheism isn't even a religion, how can it be the religion which has had the most violence taken in it's name?
It's on the list, so I picked it. Furthermore, many atheist do want to make it a religion.
How is Judaism violent? I thought they were about peace?
Religion-
1.
A set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, especially when considered as the creation of a superhuman agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs.
Or
2. 2.
A specific fundamental set of beliefs and practices generally agreed upon by a number of persons or sects: the Christian religion; the Buddhist religion.
Or
3.
The body of persons adhering to a particular set of beliefs and practices: a world council of religions.
Or
4.
The practice of religious beliefs; ritual observance of faith.
Therefore, atheists could make it a religion.
For example, some types of Satanism is a type of atheism, according to those that believe in it.
Well, atheists don't believe in God. Those who don't believe in God and believe in the devil can be considered satanists and atheists. But a lot of atheists just don't believe in God full stop.
True^^
Saying atheism is a religion is like saying that not believing in werewolves is a religion, or grouping together all theist into the same religion because they believe in a God. Atheism doesn't fit in with the definition of religion. Atheism is a philosophy, not a set of beliefs. Atheists also don't have practices.
Bookworm- all atheists don't believe in God, that's the definition of atheist.
A belief - 1.
An acceptance that a statement is true or that something exists.
Or 2.
Trust, faith, or confidence in someone or something.
"a belief in democratic politics".
Practice- 1.
The actual application or use of an idea, belief, or method as opposed to theories about such application or use.
"the principles and practice of teaching"
synonyms: application, exercise, use, operation, implementation, execution More
use, make use of, put to use, utilize, apply
the customary, habitual, or expected procedure of something.
Plural noun: practices
"current nursing practice"
synonyms: custom, procedure, policy, convention, tradition; More
the carrying out or exercise of a profession, esp. That of a doctor or lawyer.
"he abandoned medical practice for the Church"
synonyms: profession, career, business, work More
the business or premises of a doctor or lawyer.
"Dr. Weiss has a practice in Essex"
synonyms: business, firm, office, company; More
an established method of legal procedure.
Atheists believe that there is no God. Atheists practice the practice of believing that there is no God.
What exactly is the practice or the practice of not believing in God?
Exactly that. They don't believe in a God. That is their belief. They practise not believing I'm God. That is their practice.
I actually know of a handful of Muslims who are bright minded, tender-hearted, and genuine all in one. So, if Islam is truly a religion of war, then these people would be too. People need to realize there are many moderate Muslims are doing their best to fight against these responsible for the formation of Al Qaeda. Furthermore, Al Qaeda isn't the majority in the Muslim community by a long shot. I would encourage people to ask Muslims themselves about these issues and any well known issues in the Muslim community. The same when it comes to other religions. Lastly, it seems to me every religion has it's issues, but the biggest culprit to war is misguided and uninformed people who don't have enough critical thinking skills to solve complicated problems.
Correction.. Many moderate Muslims doing their best
Don't you hate typos?...
A religious practice is basically something people do biased on their beliefs such as prayer and religious festivals. The beliefs themselves aren't practices.
I just noticed that I wrote that 'atheism isn't a region' instead of 'atheism isn't a religion'.
Typos suck.
Atheism is not a religion, period. There is no discussion about it because it doesn't even fit the definition of a religion.
Atheists aren't a 'normal' religion per say. But again, referring to my previous definition, they believe that there is no God. I am not an atheist, just saying. That is their belief. That is their belief in terms on religion. BblackkBbirdd-
"A religious practice is basically something people do [based] on their beliefs such as prayer and religious festivals. The beliefs themselves aren't practices." Their religious practice, as crazy as this will sound, is not praying. Or in terms of Satanists, praying to Satan. Those are their practices.
It's hard to for someone to reject denial that they may be in fact wrong.
Don't be too mean bro!
At sis, Oh, I'm not. I am just making a point that it is one thing to not believe something because of legitimate reasons, but it is another when, you reject a claim despite factual evidence given. This is no way saying they don't have a right to misunderstand something, but just pointing out the obvious misunderstanding here.
Okay. I just wanted an excuse to call you my brother though :):p
Lol :)
Here is another way to think about it. If Buddhism can be a religion, why can't atheism? They don't even believe in any spiritual being once so ever. Though, they just simply live by certain beliefs and standards.
Firstly, Buddhists can believe in God. Secondly Buddhism fits the definition of religion as it has has religious practices e .G. Weddings. They have a belief system. Buddhism has a clergy and asks it's followers to obtain from things like meat and alcohol. Atheism doesn't fit the definition of religion so can't be considered one.
Atheism - lack of belief in a deity.
That's it. Atheists do not all share one specific set of beliefs or practices. They just don't believe in any gods. You only want atheism to be considered a religion because that is your way of grouping them all together, and it doesn't work.
Like I stated before.. When someone is in a state of denial they do whatever they can to avoid the truth.
Ironic.

Please stop reposting the same definitions over and over and over and over....
I figured it needed to be seen again for good legitimate reasons of misunderstanding.
If atheism was a religion it would be listed as a religion on the census. It's not, it's listed as 'non religious'.
"A belief - 1. An acceptance that a statement is true or that something exists. Or 2. Trust, faith, or confidence in someone or something." This doesn't apply to atheism which is mealy the lack of belief in the existence of any deities.
Why do Christians, Jews and Muslims feel a burning desire to make an atheist a religion and to make them "believe in a devil when they don't? Why don't you religious people spend your time studying how to be a better what ever you are, embracing you "god" the tenets of the doctrine of said church, working on being a better self. Doing the good deed Christ {if he is your guy} wished and stop pondering the dark side of things you do not know of, speculate on, and are not helping to change?
Haroush you seem to be in love and in a good place, why do you like to stir to he pot of 'evil' mischief and put it under the guise of "understanding. All you should be focusing on is your soon to be lovely fiancée, the life you will be building, and your faith in each other and together. No these little devilish polls on Why don't Atheist do this and why don't atheist do that. You are more mature than that that you are almost a married man stop being a child. Man up and be a husband.
Just because the sun was understood to revolve around the earth for a long period of time, didn't mean it was right. Just like with certain types of slavery and other things in human history. Though, you can't get blood out of a turnip. So, I'll leave well enough alone.
@Plato, I was only trying to give a second shot at trying to help him understand where we are coming from. That's it. I don't think the rest of your comments were necessary, but it's understandable you came off the way you did coming from your view point.
Judaism and Christianity hardly even deserve their place here.
I never said all atheists believe in the devil
Plato reminds me of Macgreggor.
That is because he is.
The gig is up Mac.
Go figure.
BBlackkbird-
Ok, what I meant was that the Majority of people living in the Middle East are Muslims.
I have never heard of anyone being killed in the name of atheism. There has been killings done by atheist rulers but only out of response to religious rebellion.
Noticed that some voted for atheism. One mention "for King and Country". Though not all violence is based on religious views, that does not mean that the violence was done by atheists. Example: The U.S. Civil war was not about religion but because Confederate forces seized numerous federal forts and military action was needed to retake them. It was also because Lincoln wanted the confederate states back. Seeing that both sides had people of the same religions, some from the same families, dismisses it as being violence in the name of religion. If violence is not in the name of a religion or being use in favor or against a religion then no religion is blame for the violence. Cases like the holocaust, because it was an act of violence to a religion from others who did not follow that religion means it is violence in the name of the religion. Hitler even publicly said that he was doing the will of God.
How is Atheism the most violent?...
@ESocialBookworm, That would depend on what you call a factor. While some wars are only about a religion others have it as just a factor, some as a minor one.
Examples:
U.S. War of Independence was also about the freedom to practice religion freely.
U.S. Civil War was also about the south feeling it was their religious right to keep slaves.
Fact is, just about every war had religion as a factor in some way.
Christianity, unless we are considering the actions of Mao Zedong, Stalin and other dictators as events in which violence was taken in the name of Atheist ideals...Then I am not 100% sure, given their massive body counts.
