There is something to be said for being the last man standing.
I guess that's a good philosophy, but the question refers to the military record. In which case, Chiang's was longer and more impressive.
Alright, anyone who disagrees with me is not to bright. Chiang Kai Shek unified the warlords and united China, defeated the late Empire of China, fought and beat the Soviet Union under Stalin, and destroyed the Turkish revolutions. He suppressed three uprisings by Mao, but unfortunately, his army was destroyed fighting Japan. Following WW2, Mao's army, which had been living in the mountains, moved in and crushed the nationalists. Effectively removing any chance of China being democratic, and demolishing my absolute favorite government type (Still in transitional phase)
Jif said so ^^
