Why did we go to war with Afghanistan and Iraq?

Posted by: 1814Username

Let's get realistic. The last 13 years of war has not changed a single thing. Iraq and Afghanistan can barely field an army let alone pose a threat to America so why did we go to war there? After all, not one 9/11 terrorist was from there.

We went to war for corporations. Smedley Butler was right when he said: I spent 33 years and four months in active military service and during that period I spent most of my time as a high class muscle man for Big Business, for Wall Street and the bankers. In short, I was a racketeer, a gangster for capitalism. I helped make Mexico and especially Tampico safe for American oil interests in 1914. We went to war because that is what we do. We have been in 12 wars in the last 100 years. We hadn't been one in a while.

We went to war so our rights could be taken away over here in the US.

Here is the full quote from Smedley Butler: I spent 33 years and four months in active military service and during that period I spent most of my time as a high class muscle man for Big Business, for Wall Street and the bankers. In short, I was a racketeer, a gangster for capitalism. I helped make Mexico and especially Tampico safe for American oil interests in 1914. I helped make Haiti and Cuba a decent place for the National City Bank boys to collect revenues in. I helped in the raping of half a dozen Central American republics for the benefit of Wall Street. I helped purify Nicaragua for the International Banking House of Brown Brothers in 1902–1912. I brought light to the Dominican Republic for the American sugar interests in 1916. I helped make Honduras right for the American fruit companies in 1903. In China in 1927 I helped see to it that Standard Oil went on its way unmolested. Looking back on it, I might have given Al Capone a few hints. The best he could do was to operate his racket in three districts. I operated on three continents.

We go to war because we are one of the only countries that can support a large army like we can. I mean we are protecting many island countries from attack.

Many island countries? From Iraq and Afghanistan? Please. Who was threatening Iraq and Afghanistan? Last time I checked, neither country asked us for help. Killing thousands of innocent people is not "protecting" another country. Plus, there are many countries out there that need "protection" but they don't have oil, guns, or vast poppy fields. You are 18. Is that the crap they teach you in school? We are protecting people?

It is funny how before the wars, heroine was not very prevalent, but after the wars, we have a heroin epidemic in the US. Amazing how that happens.

God you suck so hard. Anyway. Afghanistan=we were attacked and the group responsible was hold up in Afghanistan and the Taliban were there supporters and allies. When given the choice between taking out Al Qaeda themselves or being blown to hell the same as them they choose the later. Iraq= because over the course of a decade since we defeated Iraq in the first gulf war and implemented the standard laws and regulations victorious nations issue to those they defeat saddam constantly and without remorse broke each and everyone of them. The fact is that if we had had better leadership 8 or 9 years ago we would have invaded Iraq THEN. Iraq brought this on themselves. They kept poking the hornets nest and we finally got sick if it and decided to sting them. The fact that we waited a full decade and attempted every diplomatic approach in the book is a testimony to our leniency.

You are brainwashed Ararmer. Totally brainwashed. We created Al-Qaeda and if you don't think we are pulling strings still, you are fooling yourself. A testament to our leniency? It is their freaking country!! Who are we to say we have a right to do anything in their country? Do you want a foreign power coming over to America and messing with our country? What the first Iraq war? The Weapons of Mass destruction that never existed? What does exist is oil, drugs, gold, and a chance to sell weapons. That is all war is about. Period. There are people in this world getting slaughtered right now, but we dont care because those countries do not have oil or anything valuable. Heck, Africa has been killing themselves off for centuries. We couldn't care less. So just stop it with this America doing good crap. Then there is the very real issue ----- it is their freaking country!!!! Who are we to do anything in any other country?? All these people who think foreigners are terrorists ----- please who are you kidding? If China was the lone superpower and they came into the United States, we would fight back and be labeled terrorists!!!! The bottom line is this. If you want to make America safer --- stop invading other countries and making thousands upon thousands of enemies. You dont see anyone blowing up Switzerland do you? It is because the Swiss mind their own dang business.

1814Username: We didn't create Al-Qaeda, it was around before we got involved in the Middle East. However, we did fund them during the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan because we didn't want the Soviets to takeover that country. We ended up regretting it today because now these terrorists hate us.

ararmer1919 says2014-07-27T20:25:21.6508129-05:00
Lol. Your a good troll kid. But you suk at information. 1. We did not create Al Qaeda. We funded a group of afghani resistance fighters called the Mujahaden who were trying to free themselves from the grasp of the Soviet Union. After they won the war, the group naturally split up I to dozens of different factions each fighting for power in afghan. One of these groups would, years later, become the Taliban and one of these groups, years later, would become Al Qaeda. We had no way of knowing they end up doing what they did, and almost immediately after their founding we started fighting them. 2. We had every right to say what they could or could not do. I was not refereeing to the last Iraq war I was referring to the first one. Desert Shield/Storm? Iraq invaded its neighbor Kuwait in an act of aggression. Kuwait was a US Ally and requested our aid, and we answered the call. We drove out the Iraqi offensive and then to ensure Kuwait security we invaded iraq. Also note that this was a UN endeavor, not just the US. But before we could crush saddam completely the UN forced us to stop (mostly because saddam had his **** in the UKs a hole) but we were still the victors of the war. As the victors we were entitled to lay down any type of rule or regulation we felt like. Just like every other nation has done when defeating another nation. Just like when we defeated Germany and Japan. Same thing here. Saddam choose to ignore these laws and thus paid the natural price for his crimes. This is very simple stuff kid. 3. You do realize that the US gives out more humanitarian aid then any 3 nations combined? Whenever there's a natural disaster we are the first to send help. Our aid prevents the starvation of hundreds of thousands. Our peace keeping operations prevent civil wars and such (not always successful of course) we don't help Africa? Are you kidding me? We've been doing that for decades. Remember Somalia 1993? I can keep going with this, so drop the "evil America" thing. Are we perfect. **** no. Do we sometimes do things solely for our own interests? Of course we do. But we are far from the evil empire. 4. China? That's why were the best. So that doesn't have to happen. 5 Switzerland? That's because nobody gives a flying **** about Switzerland. What's there that's worth anyone's time?

No, one exclamation point means someone is excited, three means they are freaking out. But you're not interested in a nuanced conversation about foreign policy. Your also still going on about who we don't help continues in Africa. Well a simple google search into where the US sends it's foreign aid, which was over 50 billion dollars last fiscal year, shows that the US sends aid to 14 fing African nations. Billions of dollars. Egypt, Ethiopia, Kenya, South Sudan, Somalia, Tanzania, Uganda, Nigeria, Sudan, Congo, South Africa, Mozambique, Liberia and Libya. Did you know we send 457 million dollars a year to the West Bank? 440 million to Russia? 50 billion dollars. And this is just what the US GOVERNMENT gives. There's also the average 10-30 billion a year that comes from private foundations and donations. Plus 12 billion in grants. So you were saying we don't help other nations? Did you know that without the aid we send to Egypt the population would starve to death?

The_Immortal_Emris says2014-07-28T12:43:26.3765759-05:00
Eh, we are definitely involved in Iraq for oil interests. You wouldn't have seen them working the pumps. They have blackwater type PMGs guarding the sites. Just google Halliburton's security firm and how they have been used in iraq to protect rig workers and export efforts.
ararmer1919 says2014-07-28T13:02:39.2543462-05:00
Emirs oh I'm Not denying that oil was A reason for the war. It just wasn't the only reason and perhaps not even the main reason. But it certainly was a reason. But more for European interests them the US's. If course we benifit when our European allies benefit and of course there's the whole "petro dollar" thing. But as for the idea like what Userfagname believes, that we invaded so we could suck up the oil ourselves and bring it to the US, that's complete horsecrap. The US gets less then 2.7% of its yearly oil intake from Iraq. Compared to the 2.9% we got from them prior to 2003. And out of the oil companies that were granted contracts to operate in Iraq after the war, America only got contracts for 2 oil fields and that was years later. The first round the did where they issued contracts the US didn't get a single one. And of course, Iraq is still the owner of the fields and oil. We just get to drill/refine it since they don't posses the capabilities themselves to do so.
1814Username says2014-07-28T13:05:33.0079372-05:00
You won? Won what. The right to be brainwashed. Yep, you went to war. A war where thousands of innocent people were killed and where generations of babies will have birth defects. Bravo. You accomplished a lot. Wait --- nothing has changed. So really, all you did was cause death and destruction for oil, gold, drugs, and so weapons manufacturers could sell weapons. Amazing how when you went to war, all the poppy fields were replanted and now America has a heroine epidemic. So be careful, who and what you are fighting for.
ararmer1919 says2014-07-28T13:13:47.8208030-05:00

Don't tell me your one of those "depleted uranium bad" rtards? Nothing's changed? Well we went in there to kill saddam right? He's dead isn't he ? Seems like that's a change right there. You think we invaded afghan so we could get heroin??? Hahaha. I like the "for lithium" theory better. Jesus Christ kid. Opium was always a major product for the afghan people. They've always grown it. The "mysterious boom" of growth, which wasn't so mysterious or a real boom, came after they were invaded by the most powerful nation on earth and needed a way to pay for weapons and what not to resist. Most of that crap goes to Pakistan and that Russian area that's infested with jihadist. Iv been to afghan. Have you? When I was there, we burned down the fields because jihadis liked to plant IEDs in them. Thousands of acres. Never once got in trouble for it. Never was murdered by the "men in black" for messing with their drug operation. Seriously kid, your attempts are so sad. And you call us brainwashed.
