I picked "To influence others and gather support", but honestly I believe Religion was created: a) To trick people into following one person's outlook on life b) To be a made up story to keep people's minds at ease when the wondered about the beyond c) To, much like the spider myth, see how many people would believe in such an obvious lie

None of the above.... Religion was established with the same purpose as our modern laws. To set a standard by which a group of people live by. Put it through the cultural filter of a few hundred generations and you get what we have as religions now....
