I haven't found any evidence to suggest that restricting legal access to firearms would result in a drop in crime rates. Would it result in a drop in gun-related violent crimes specifically? Maybe, as that's what happened in England and Australia, but they don't have the availability of firearms that the US has, so it might not make a difference here at all.
Also, while gun violence dropped in England and Australia, violent crime and homicide rates stayed about the same. In England, the rate of fatal stabbings increased year after year. In Autralia, there hasn't been a mass shooting since the Port Arthur incident, but a rise in other violent crimes (sexual assault, home invasion, etc.) were reported to have increased.. Overall homicide rates haven't changed much at all since their gun bans either.
Even in America, there are states and cities with lax gun laws and low rates of violent crime, and cities and states with very strict gun control laws and high rates of violent crime. There's simply no correlation between gun ownership/availability and violent crime/homicide rates. If anyone has evidence to the contrary, I want to know, because I haven't found any.
I can't remember if it was Detroit or Chicago, but the mayor made it legal to carry a concealed weapon again. Guess what happened? Crime rates dropped across the board. Not a little drop. A BIG DROP. This proves that the best way to prevent crime is to arm the potential victims. Most criminals are cowards. They will not risk going after someone if there is a good chance that they are armed. If you want more proof, just look at the Cold War. Both sides had nukes. If one went after the other, both sides would be destroyed. It's called a deterrent. Guns in the hands of law abiding citizens are a deterrent. This is a fact. Any questions?
That's because those cities are bankrupt, no jobs, progressive government turned their backs on those cities. Now gangs have taken over those cities making them safe havens for illegal gun running, drug dealing, and crime.
Ask Mr. President Obama what he has done or even attempted to help Chicago....His district....The district he represented....He has done nothing.
One of the nicest cities? Yeah right, that is one of the cities in the USA that I would not want to visit. http://www.neighborhoodscout.com/il/chicago/crime/
Yeah that is a good city their not!
My point is, Chicago proper has a population of ~2 million. The metro area is close to 10 million. So... If you live in a city of, say 200k, you need to look at the news of 10 of your city's for the same news. Further, the same city of 200k is not a world renown attraction. For all the gun-....People, using Chicago as your model is missing so many of the important details, it just highlights you as most-likely from some Podunk.
