  • If everyone was to give up their guns, then I don't see the need to keep mine. While the need for arms would still probably arise due to pure human nature, if no one else has guns, I wont mind giving up mine,

  • if there was absolutely no crime... i would gladly build high powered NERF guns for fun. (I don't own any guns. NERF would only would be for NERF wars and fun target practice)

  • perfect example of needs for gun control

  • Firing ranges, hunting, etc. All good reasons for me not to give up my guns. Except there is one problem, I don't own any yet :)

  • If the government disappeared there would be no order no order means more criminals

  • I would not give up my guns because there are more than just for defending my self they are a hobby of mine and I have enjoyed shooting since a young age

  • I like dakka. Also, what if I like hunting?

  • What if we were invaded by Canada, and all the military was in England.

  • I hunt

  • Without these guns, the tyranny would soon reappear.

If criminals magically disappeared, what reasons would there to get rid of guns? Provided there are laws against using guns wrongly, anybody who does a crime with a gun is a criminal, and criminals magically don't exist, thus no one can use a gun wrongly, thus no gun deaths other than accidents.

@Mathgeekjoe: There are safety issues as well, aren't they? :P

See, I own a couple guns myself. One is a tiny .22 rifle and the other is a tiny little shot gun. I've gone skeet shooting in Scotland and we have a skeet thrower at home. It's quite fun. I don't think it's a necessary thing to own guns though, for myself. However, my father's neighbor has had foxes eat his pygmy goats - so I don't think even if all the criminals no longer existed, his neighbor wouldn't be so happy to give up his gun. My dad called me up one day and said he shot a snake that was about to eat his rabbits. My dad raised some rabbits as pets but gave it up since the foxes and snakes ate too many. Guns in areas where my dad lives (tiny town in NC) are necessary for the protection of the animals they raise. In even more desolate areas, guns are used for protection, not against criminals, but against other animals capable of severely injuring or killing people.

"@Mathgeekjoe: There are safety issues as well," The benefits of guns outweigh the safety issues.
