Would you vote for Bernie Sanders or Rand Paul?

Posted by: mystery_man43

The poll toppers were Bernie Sanders and Rand Paul. See: http://www.debate.org/polls/who-would-you-vote-for-in-20162http://www.debate.org/polls/who-would-you-vote-for-in-20162

Poll closed on 6/25/2015 at 12:00AM.
  • Bernie Sanders

  • Rand Paul

53% 17 votes
47% 15 votes
  • I would vote for Rand Paul if it were to be between the two of them.

  • Bernie is to much of a liberal extremist while Rand Paul tends to be more moderate. So from a moderate stance I choose Rand Paul

  • This is America. So I support someone who protects the our freedoms expressed in the constitution. I definitely do not support an old socialist. Plenty of countries have tried socialism. Its not for us. Its crazy that Bernie is even considered a legitimate candidate. All these people that want to bring socialism to the US, can you please move to one of the countries currently with it. What made America so great is that we have the freedom to succeed.

  • Rand is the best choice between them. Sanders is against a lot of things I like. I think Rand is the candidate with the highest likelihood to win because he seems to be liked among young people

  • I stand with Rand.

  • Sanders is a socialist and is running under the more moderate Democratic banner. Paul is a libertarian running under the similarly more moderate Republican banner. I support Paul, but I won't follow in the footsteps of many of the people who are on the left here and denounce the other candidate with harsh words. He can think what he wants, but he won't get nominated. The Democratic favorite is Hillary. The Republican favorite is Jeb Bush, but they're making a mistake. Hillary could win against Jeb, but against Paul, she has no hope, and neither does Sanders.

No

Both, but I might have to go with Bernie.
tajshar2k says2015-06-16T14:57:19.9096964-05:00
Both seem like they passionately care about America. If Bernie loses the primary, I'm supporting Rand for sure.
FreedomBeforeEquality says2015-06-17T14:45:19.3947403-05:00
Never would I ever vote Bernie.
tajshar2k says2015-06-17T15:01:31.1875289-05:00
Why? (just wondering)
FreedomBeforeEquality says2015-06-17T15:03:22.5547699-05:00
Almost every single line item from his website involves some sort of unconstitutional intervention.
FreedomBeforeEquality says2015-06-17T15:04:22.0231135-05:00
I want to spare him the embarrassment of impeachment. I'm being merciful is all.
tajshar2k says2015-06-17T15:04:57.7009996-05:00
Wow, I knew never helping middle class Americans was unconstitutional.
FreedomBeforeEquality says2015-06-17T15:05:14.4089209-05:00
Or the embarrassment of having to go through his campaign without fulfilling any of his promises to the people. That would be unfortunate for him and for you.
tajshar2k says2015-06-17T15:09:03.2185210-05:00
Why wouldn't he fulfill his promises? He is the only democrat who actually cares about America (Rand does too).
FreedomBeforeEquality says2015-06-17T15:09:24.3508647-05:00
Sure ... Hurting one group under the guise of helping another.
tajshar2k says2015-06-17T15:10:30.3787582-05:00
Majority(middle class) over Minority (billionaires who get tax cuts)
FreedomBeforeEquality says2015-06-17T15:10:41.4872431-05:00
It's not that he wouldnt try ... Its that he "couldn't" fulfill those promises. They are unconstitutional.
FreedomBeforeEquality says2015-06-17T15:13:13.8869518-05:00
His model involves opposing legislation ... Keep jobs in America, keep high pressure/taxes/regulation on those businesses. That concept doesn't work on its own. It would take forceful action against the rights of the american citizen to keep them in that sort of trap.
TBR says2015-06-17T16:15:59.9025429-05:00
@FreedomBeforeEquality - I wouldn't guess you would like him, but that "unconstitutional" charge is preposterous. I so get tired of conservatives feeling they are the owners of the constitution and flag.
FreedomBeforeEquality says2015-06-18T09:59:54.8944435-05:00
Ok, then explain to me exactly what parts of the section that defines his duties as set forth in the constitution he can use to make those things happen? He has no right to promise those things to you and no power to take those rights away from business owners. If he wants that kind of power he's running for the wrong office. He can go be a dictator somewhere else.
FreedomBeforeEquality says2015-06-18T10:19:38.8771328-05:00
"I so get tired of conservatives feeling they are the owners of the constitution and flag." Then start upholding it and it's ideals and you can own it too. No need for jealousy.
FreedomBeforeEquality says2015-06-18T10:35:48.2329739-05:00
That wasn't meant for you in particular. More of an open statement.
debate_power says2015-06-21T18:51:22.2564236-05:00
Nobody's tried socialism. They've tried to instate it but that's it.
TBR says2015-06-21T18:51:30.5879839-05:00
@FreedomBeforeEquality - "upholding it and it's ideals and you can own it too" I do that every day. Just because YOU don't like it does not make me LESS of a American or a Patriot.
debate_power says2015-06-21T18:52:29.3281139-05:00
Yeah really... It's supposed to be about us, the people. It's supposed to be democratic.
FreedomBeforeEquality says2015-06-22T23:24:11.8400880-05:00
"Nobody's tried socialism. They've tried to instate it but that's it." If you wanna go that route ... We've never had true capitalism, ever.
FreedomBeforeEquality says2015-06-22T23:26:32.1023853-05:00
I do that every day. Just because YOU don't like it does not make me LESS of a American or a Patriot. Being a patriot isn't in the eyes of the beholder. If enough of us think of you as a whack job ... You wont be remembered as a patriot in any way. This isn't one of those things you get to just 'be' because you think you identify with it. You know like deciding one day youll be a guy, or black, or whatever else you want to dream up.
TBR says2015-06-22T23:58:36.6489951-05:00
Don't worry about it FreedomBeforeEquality. We think of you guys as wackjobs too. And all that flag-waving and jingoism looks very shalow from my perspective.
FreedomBeforeEquality says2015-06-23T00:03:40.6301278-05:00
It looks that way for outside nations too. That's probably why people mistake you for them. You relate too well with what our enemies think. That's why hippies and such are viewed as unpatriotic. Hard to claim you are with the nation when you back foreign opinions about who we should be, what we should enact as law, how we should run our country, etc.
TBR says2015-06-23T00:37:05.3213637-05:00
My problem is, it is not you or the other conservatives of our country that get to say what is and is not "American". You see, it is WE. The arrogance of saying you hold the only right to the title "real American" is un-American itself.
FreedomBeforeEquality says2015-06-23T09:01:57.0545797-05:00
It's not just me though. I just don't speak about all this stuff in plural all the time. I knew someone who did that and it annoyed the hell out of me.
debate_power says2015-06-23T14:52:37.2971760-05:00
@FreedomBeforeEquality Haha. I recognize that there has never been actual capitalism. I've known that for forever.
debate_power says2015-06-23T14:54:59.9759209-05:00
Honestly, TBR, don't worry about what some people consider un-American about you, if some people do consider you un-American. It's just name-calling. I consider myself a citizen of Earth, anyway.
TBR says2015-06-23T14:59:17.7510802-05:00
@FreedomBeforeEquality - And, from the first comment about this, I am saying that it is a character flaw. The people that assume they are the only "real Americans" are being obtuse. If you and your friends want to walk around THINKING you are the standard-bearer, well, that is your own delusion. Every citizen of the USA gets equal Americanness as YOU. To say otherwise makes you LESS patriotic. Get it?
FreedomBeforeEquality says2015-06-23T15:31:51.7324687-05:00
I think youre confusing democratic representation with national patriotism. I dont see our nation as markedly democratic in nature. Theres a fusion there where your vote only goes so far ... And your money and your actions make up the rest of that say. It's got some meritocracy sprinkled in there.
FreedomBeforeEquality says2015-06-24T13:33:23.7105815-05:00
"Every citizen of the USA gets equal Americanness as YOU. To say otherwise makes you LESS patriotic." Is that to say then that every self interested thing they do is American and patriotic, for the simple fact that they were born here? And i'm less a patriot because I disagree with them? That seems to be taking the term American a little too literally. If 'Americanness' is whatever an American person decides it is ... Then perhaps I shall have to find another term to use that expresses it without the option for people to change it into whatever they see fit. Is there another word I should be using? Nationalism? Maybe just 'Patriotic with regards to [blank]'? Something on those lines.
