Jesus Christ

Jesus, also referred to as Jesus of Nazareth, is the central figure of Christianity, whom the teachings of most Christian denominations hold to be the Son of God. Christianity regards Jesus as the awaited Messiah of the Old Testament and refers to h... im as Jesus Christ, a name that is also used in non-Christian contexts.Virtually all modern scholars of antiquity agree that Jesus existed historically, although the quest for the historical Jesus has produced little agreement on the historical reliability of the Gospels and on how closely the biblical Jesus reflects the historical Jesus. Most scholars agree that Jesus was a Jewish rabbi from Galilee who preached his message orally, was baptized by John the Baptist, and was crucified in Jerusalem on the orders of the Roman prefect, Pontius Pilate. Scholars have constructed various portraits of the historical Jesus, which often depict him as having one or more of the following roles: the leader of an apocalyptic movement, Messiah, a charismatic healer, a sage and philosopher, or an egalitarian social reformer   more

Jesus is great and all, aside from the facts that he killed a kid, constantly disobeyed authority, blinded a man for saying that his dad's carpentry was bad, Committed the sin of Necromancy, got a tattoo, denied that he was the son of God, let every one think one of his disciples betrayed him and let him look bad, had a wife that was a prostitute, had a kid, had a possible gay sexual experience, and so much more. Oh yeah he's great.

mishapqueen says2014-07-07T22:15:10.4803777-05:00
PinValentine, I'm confused. When did Jesus kill a kid, blind someone, commit the sin of Necromancy, get a tattoo, deny that he was the son of God, had a wife that was a prostitute, had a kid, and had a possible gay sexual experience? I am a Christian and I have not heard of any of that before. Could you explain it some more?
PinValentine says2014-07-07T22:16:15.7662593-05:00
I chose Jim Carrey. As a person who is working to be in the film industry, he is some one I can constantly look up to. There are so many, and probably better people I could name though. But even Hitler is a better pick than Jesus.
PinValentine says2014-07-07T22:46:34.9325720-05:00
First I would have thought that the necromancy thing would have been obvious. It is one of the most popular stories in the bible. When he brought Lazarus back to life. That is a sin after all. That is only one account though. When he killed the kid, he brought him back so that the kid could tell every one that Jesus didn't do it, even though he did. Then he blinded the parents. You will see in that same source they talk of when a neighbor of Joseph and Mary are struck blind because they complained and Jesus blinded them for it. If you take direct quotes from Jesus, such as in Luke 18:18, then you would see that he denied being Jesus three times, up until he was being beaten for it. Http://en.Wikipedia.Org/wiki/Gospel_of_Jesus'_Wife You will see in this source that Jesus specifically talks about his wife. I only speculate that his wife is the prostitute Mary. It is the most likely and widely accepted idea. Http://en.Wikipedia.Org/wiki/Jesus_bloodline Now this one does seam to be only hypothetical and highly possible. I thought I remember reading about a christian text specifically talking about her, but I might have just read something about her. The supposed daughter is Saint Sarah. She is not the only one. There are others. It is an interesting read. Https://www.Biblegateway.Com/passage/?Search=Mark+14%3A51-53&version=KJV https://www.Biblegateway.Com/passage/?Search=John+13:23 http://en.Wikipedia.Org/wiki/Secret_Gospel_of_Mark Then you have the possible gay experience. I said one, but there are two. The three links above describe those experiences. They are not confirmed to be homosexual sex, that is why I said possible, but they are suggestive. A lot of experts seam to think that these are homosexual experiences. Http://en.Wikipedia.Org/wiki/Sexuality_of_Jesus#The_naked_youth This link talks more about Jesus's sexuality. It gives a little more about a possible gay lover and his wife. Https://www.Biblegateway.Com/passage/?Search=Revelation+19%3A16&version=NKJV Last, but certainly not least, is Jesus's tattoo. It is stated in the passage given in the link provided here. Written on his thigh "King of kings, lord of lords." Many experts think that this is likely a tattoo, and I agree with them.

Dang it ran it all together. Oh well, that is for you @mishapqueen.
mishapqueen says2014-07-07T23:11:30.2376856-05:00
I don’t understand how bringing back Lazarus from the dead is a sin. Would you be willing to explain why you say that? Moving on to the blinding, your source was the gospel of Thomas, which is a book of highly disputed authenticity. The page you sent me to said “The Infancy Gospel of Thomas is a pseudepigraphical (falsely attributed) gospel about the childhood of Jesus that is believed to date to the 2nd century.” Luke 18:18 -19 says: “A certain ruler asked him, “Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?”“Why do you call me good?” Jesus answered. “No one is good—except God alone.” Jesus actually claimed to be God several times. I can show you the Greek if you like. The Gospel of Jesus’ wife is also highly disputed and is not included in the Bible. It is based off of only one fragment and is not even supported by your source which says: “Professor Karen L. King (who announced the existence of the papyrus in 2012) and her colleague AnneMarie Luijendijk named the fragment the "Gospel of Jesus's Wife" for reference purposes[3] but have since acknowledged the name was controversial.[note 1] King has stated that the fragment, "should not be taken as proof that Jesus, the historical person, was actually married."” Mary Magdalene being Jesus’ wife is a belief held by the Jehovah’s witnesses. (I think) I do not hold to it, and it is not widely accepted in most Christian circles. There is very little proof. The Bible Gateway references were a dead end. Could you try to send them again? Moving on to the naked youth. Firstly, you have another apocryphal source, “The Secret Gospel of Mark,” which is a source that is questioned significantly by the Protestants, and a source that does not have a lot of weight with the Catholics. These books are not considered as reliable as the books in the Bible and are not considered inspired. Your source says “Most scholars however see the so-called Secret Gospel as a modern hoax.” When the naked youth appears in Mark, if you look at the context, this person was so eager to escape getting caught and potentially killed that he ran straight out of his clothes. This has nothing to do with homosexuality at all. Bible Gateway didn’t work again. Sorry. I just get a random search page. Moving on. You are right about the tattoo. I had forgotten about it. I guess I just don’t see what the problem is with it. An observation: the majority of your sources were from Wikipedia. While that is a good place to look for general information, as you likely know, it is not peer reviewed, so we cannot know whether it is accurate or not. Thank you for your explanations! I appreciate your time!

PinValentine says2014-07-07T23:41:13.6668795-05:00
Bringing back Lazarus from the dead is a sin because Jesus did so with out the authority of God. Any work by magic, or abominable practices is a sin. Leviticus 19:31 directly describes Necromancy to be an unclean practice. As Jesus brought back Lazarus from the dead with out the authority of God, Jesus did an unclean and abominable act which is a sin. Pseudepigraphical does not mean falsely attributed. Pseudo means sub, or under, or side. It is something that is studied in relation to the main subject with out being the main subject. The authenticity of these gospels are rather favorable. We know for a fact that before there was a bible, all the gospels and literature having to do with the Christian and Jewish god were widely accepted, studied, and favored. Many of the books that did not make it into the bible were actually more popular than the books that was put in. The infancy gospel of Jesus is one such Gospel. It was widely popular before the Bible was put together. Not one book of the bible, or any other christian religious text was writ at the same time as Jesus's activities. They were all written centuries after. (It is similar to how Harry potter took place in the early 90's but was writ years after the events. I wonder if the the religious texts could also be entirely made up. That would include the bible.) Jesus said "Why do you call me good? None is good except God alone." He is denying that he is the son of god. It is simple literacy. He questioned why the ruler called him good. If no one is good except God, and God alone, then Jesus's inquiry on the ruler's meaning would obviously imply that Jesus is not good. Therefore he denies that he is the son of God or God himself, meaning he denied God. Which is a sin. No Christian or Jewish text should be disregarded simply because it is not in the bible. Doing so you either ignore or are ignorant of the history of the the bible. Refer to the second paragraph I have typed here. The Gospel of Jesus's wife is speculative, I give you that. The fragments are but fragments so far. All the religious texts needed repairing when they were found. They were found decades ago where The Gospel of Jesus's Wife is newly found. So far it appears to be a religious text. As I said, you cannot discredit any religious text because it is not in the bible. You have said that it is widely disputed, but if that is any criteria on weather or not a text should be credible, then you forget that the bible is widely disputed. As far as the homosexual relations go, I have said that they are possible. I have doubts in my own mind about them being homosexual relations. The disciple whom he loved is much more likely than the naked youth by what I see. I realize that Wikipedia is a place for general information, But I think that might have been my intentions. To provide general information. There is a lot to read on these subjects, and all of them are highly interesting. I recommend reading all about them. By giving only Wikipedia, I wasn't quite sure on where I should get the information from to give the exact answered or information you might want or need. Specifically there are so many viewpoints on the "forgotten" books of the bible. I think Wikipedia is a fantastic place to start though. From there you can go to other sites to get all sorts of information. Care for a friendly debate on this subject?
