About Me:Right, so I am a student in my Junior year of high school. That being said, I am in the thick of all of the mellow-dramatic crap that is associated with adolescents. However, I do what I can to avoid it, and am hoping to move forward and become a citizen so that I can finally contribute to society in a valid manner. I have tried to educate myself in philosophy and politics, that way I can make sure that as a voting constituent, the ballot that I cast is an informed one. I recognise that I have a lot to learn still, but I tend to pride myself in the fact that I am trying to break free of the ignorance that is on display by the majority of my peers. My loyalty is to the United States of America, and to further it's cause and status as the greatest nation on earth. I am politically neutral, although I tend to lean a little to the left. However, I do agree wholeheartedly with several conservative ideas, but I believe that a certain balance needs to exist, as well.
Activities:I am an active member of my High School speech and debate team. Aside from my affiliation with that and (naturally) the National Forensics League, I occasionally play in chess tournaments.
Beliefs:As a child, I was raised to be a Christian (not a bible beater, per se, but a believer). However, as time went on, I kept finding inconsistencies and flaws in the doctrine that was preached to me. I began to question that which before I was willing to blindly accept. Today, while I do not altogether reject the remote possibility that there is a higher deity/force, I currently believe in no supernatural being(s). I guess you could say that I am an agnostic that is as close to atheism as and agnostic can be.
Books:I liked the Harry Potter series, and from time to time will read a few pages from some of the newer books for a little rush of nostalgia. I also recall liking books like The Phantom Tollbooth, Spirit Bear, and Frankenstein. Regrettably, it has been difficult to make time in my life to read many books, but when I do get the chance, they tend to be non-fiction, such as A Theory of Justice by John Rawls, The Philosopher's Toolkit, and a few others. National Geographic is Awesome!
Movies:I don't have too many movies that I like, I rarely watch any. I remember thinking that the new Godzilla was pretty cool. The Dark Knight wasn't too bad, either.
Music:I listen to everything. No, really, I mean EVERYTHING.
Quotes:Wit is educated insolence." -Aristotle
"I intend to live forever, or die trying" -Groucho Marx
"The roots of education are bitter, but the fruit is sweet." -Aristotle
"We call that person who has lost his father, an orphan; and a widower that man who has lost his wife. But that man who has known the immense unhappiness of losing a friend, by what name do we call him? Here every language is silent and holds its peace in impotence." -Joseph Roux
"Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there, wondering, fearing, doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before." -Edgar Allen Poe
"The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and all science. He to whom this emotion is a stranger, who can no longer pause to wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead: his eyes are closed." -Albert Einstein
"Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe." -Albert Einstein
