Should kids at age 16 be able to vote

coolmikeb

Lowering the voting age to 16 will give the vote to people who have roots in a community, have an appreciation for local issues, and will be more concerned about voting than those just two years older. Youth have comfortable surroundings, school, parents, and stable friends, they feel connected to their community; all factors that will increase their desire and need to vote. Lower the voting age, and youth will vote....

should women be allowed to be in war???

coolmikeb

There's something instinctive in most men, I think, that makes them protect women - that instinct isn't trained out of them and it doesn't bode well for a war situation. A man would like to jump for a grenade for a female more then a man. We wouldn't improve our US army if women where involved. If women are allowed to go into war, then it would take us a lot of more training to have the men of the military be able to sacrifice a women. Plus, there are many less women in the world then men, which...

should school outfits be illeagal

coolmikeb

I say tha tchool outfits hsould be illegal beacuse of hte benifits that kids have to have their own vote of speech. During spring, kids would rather wear summer like outfits while in the winter kids want to wear more thicker clothing. No school i know of has paid for both short summer outfits and thick winter jackets....

Prescriptive Grammar does more harm than good

belle

I would like to thank PoeJoe for accepting this debate, as it is something I have been looking forward to debating for some time; it appears I have found a worthy opponent. To start, I shall attempt to make it clear what I mean by prescriptive grammar as opposed to other types. A prescriptive grammar is a set of rules detailing how someone (whoever made those rules) thinks a language should be used, whereas a descriptive grammar is simply a codification of how a language is actually used by...

Dance Dance Revolution ought to be included in High-School . . .

Logical-Master

FULL TOPIC: Dance Dance Revolution ought to be included in High-School and/or Middle School Physical Education classes for schools that can afford it. I am in favor of this suggestion. I fully uphold the notion that DDR ought to be included and invite anyone who wishes to argue in favor of the topic. Like my most recent debate challenge, I shall begin argumentation in the second round and shall merely let this round serve as the greeting round. PRO is more than free to follow suit and begin a...

A Libertarian Society Would Benefit the United States of America.

atheistman

A Libertarian Society is one where the only laws that apply are laws that prohibit taking freedoms away from someone else without their consent. These freedoms include life, liberty, and property. In this particular Libertarian society, soft drugs such as marijuana would be legal, along with prostitution, same-sex marriage, and many other things. Censorship would also be very limited because people have the first amendment rights of freedom of speech/expression. Abortion would be legal because a...

Seat belt and helmet laws should be abolished.

BEN875

Just because people aren't forced to wear seat belts or motorcycle helmets doesn't mean that you can't wear a seat belt or helmet. If the risks that go along with not using a seat belt or helmet concerns you then wear a seat belt whenever you are in a car, wear a helmet whenever you are on a motorcycle, and let other people make up their own minds. Oliver Wendell Holmes said it best when he said "My right to swing my fist ends where your nose begins." People should be allowed to take as many ris...

We are far worse off now as tax payers than we were before the American Revolution

sadolite

I started reflecting upon this countries independence from Great Britain back in 1776 and decided to do a little research on what were the reasons that lead to it. Taxes were not at the top of the list. It was the refusal of self governance by Britain that was the main reason. None the less if we were going to have a revolution to over through our current gov't there are endless reasons to, in addition to just crippling endless taxes. There were very few taxes imposed by Britain before the...

Minimum Wage

acer

Minimum Wage is the lowest hourly, daily or monthly wage that employers may legally pay to employees or workers". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minimum_wage. I am PRO, therefore my objective is to prove that having a minimum wage does more good than bad. For CON to win, he must prove that having minimum wage is the worst possible option. 1. The reason that minimum wage was first introduced was because of companies taking advantage of it employees. They did this by paying them incredibly lo...
