Is the argument "no harm to others" effective in establishing the acceptability of homosexuality?

thg
TUF

Many thanks to TUF for agreeing to accept this debate challenge. I look forward to an engaging and provocative discussion. I have been frustrated for several years with the ongoing larger debate on the moral acceptability of homosexual behavior and lifestyle. I am not weighing it at this point on that debate per se. The following is not a debate about whether homosexual behavior is morally acceptable or not. But I continue to be frustrated with so many of the arguments that are being put fort...

Has the Church Replaced Israel? Replacement Theology Debate

Jacob_Apologist
thg

This is a Christian debate. Comment and give your affirmation to debate only if you profess to be a Christian, a believer of Bible. If evangelical, even better. Topic: Has the Church replaced Israel? Replacement theologians try to hold a number of synonyms to avoid the tag "replacement" by saying they believe in "fulfillment theology" or supersessionism where the Church as absolutely fulfilled and superseded Israel. The implications are same no matter what term you prefer to hold. It implie...

Is the argument "no harm to others" effective in establishing the acceptability of homosexuality?

thg
Bruinshockeyfan

In the ongoing larger debate on the moral acceptability of homosexuality, I often hear the following argument employed by the pro-gay contingent: "It does no harm to others, so we should not condemn it, but should deem it morally acceptable."While "harm done to others" surely has some relevance to any comprehensive moral system, the way this argument often is used in the ongoing debate on the moral acceptability of homosexuality falls short.I will be arguing that this argument has a number of pr...

Argument "from nature" should be dropped from both sides of the debate on homosexuality

thg
Coward

I take the position that arguments "from nature" commonly employed by each side of the larger debate on homosexuality are unsound and should be dropped from the debate.Note this particular challenge is not about the moral acceptability of homosexuality, but specifically targets the arguments "from nature" commonly employed in the larger debate. The anti-gay side often argues that homosexuality is "unnatural", and, therefore, should be condemned. I have heard this argument expressed by well-...

Argument "from nature" should be dropped from both sides of the debate on homosexuality

thg

The "anti-gay" version of the "natural" argument is that homosexuality is unnatural, and, therefore, immoral. I have heard this point argued by well-meaning, articulate folks. The "pro-gay" side of the homosexuality debate often counters this argument (often quite eloquently) by pointing out that there are many natural things that are bad and many unnatural things that are good...that we cannot use "nature", per se, to condemn homosexuality. I believe the pro-gay side is correct in this crit...
